“I’m a fraud.”

“I don’t fit in.”

“I am not enough…”

These are just some of the feelings we have experience as mixed women of color. When it comes to racial identity, feeling “enough” for our perspective halves has been a struggle. Some of these feelings fall into the category of Imposter Syndrome (IP). In this episode we examine this phenomenon and how we as Biracial Unicorns can navigate through it.

In this episode we:

Briefly discuss the origins of Imposter Syndrome (or Imposter Phenomenon)
Share how we’ve personally experienced this phenomenon
Describe how Racial Imposter Syndrome can manifest and the negative impact it has on establishing racial identity.

We also have a couple of resources we mention in the episode. You could take the Clance IP Scale test and see if Imposter Syndrome is something you might be battling: https://paulineroseclance.com/pdf/IPTestandscoring.pdf

Afterwards, explore the different types of Imposters: https://interactioninstitute.org/racial-imposter-syndrome/

In this particular episode we strongly encourage anyone who relates to this phenomenon to find a safe community to express these feelings to. Expressing your “imposter-ness” is one way to dismantle the lie of inadequacy. Remember Unicorns, you are enough!

A couple of previous episodes we mention on today's show:
Episode 11: Mixed Race. Half Enough - https://biracialunicorns.pinecast.co/episode/7ec9fa541a074d24/mixed-race-half-enough
Episode 45: Mixed Mental Health and Identity w/ Brittney George - https://biracialunicorns.pinecast.co/episode/64215913cfaf445e/mixed-mental-health-identity-with-brittney-george

We end the episode on high note with our Happy Place hint It’s fizzy, floral, and fabulous!
