S1:E7 - Emotional Regulation for Educators

S1:E7 - Emotional Regulation for Educators

Today's episode aims to share a couple of thoughts and strategies around self-regulation and co-regulation for teachers and administrators. All behavior is communication and, often, behavior that appears more "challenging" or "unexpected" is trying to communicate some kind of emotion, feeling, or need that has not been met. I share a couple of strategies and a book connection you can use when bringing emotional wellness into your classrooms especially as we get closer to warmer weather and the excitement of Spring and Summer buzzes in our buildings.

    S1:E6 - Reframing Our Story

    S1:E6 - Reframing Our Story

With today’s episode I want to take a more reflective approach to talk about the topic of wounds. During my graduate classes the topic of “fear” came up a couple of times in my assignments. One of our instructors recommended I pick up The Wounded Leader: How Real Leadership Emerges in Times of Crisis by Richard Ackerman – It’s an older book (early 2000s) but the themes really resonated with me and so alot of today’s reflection is definitely in response to these themes of wounds and how we can do something called reframing in order to craft meaning from our own stories and pains.

S1:E5 - Recipes for Unlocking Yourself w/ Mike Earnshaw

S1:E5 - Recipes for Unlocking Yourself w/ Mike Earnshaw

In today's Episode I am joined with Principal Extraordinaire Mike Earnshaw. Mike is the host of the Punk Rock Classrooms Podcast, Author of the The EduCulture Cookbook: Recipes & Dishes to Positively Transform Classroom & School Culture.

In our conversation we dive into his journey from high schooler that had their fair share of struggles, to extraordinarily fun teacher, and how he has made the shift from "fitting in" as an admin to really coming into his own and being the Mike he has always been.

One of the most beautiful things about life is how diverse we all are as human beings and there is no one size fits all to anything. I was really empowered by this conversation and hope that you can all find the encouragement to be the best and most authentic you!

S1: E4 - It's Dangerous to Go Alone... Take This!!!

The Legend of Zelda is one of my all time favorite video game series' and I've been thinking about the connection between the games and how we can show up as our best. The video games invite a great sense of discovery, exploration, adventure, and wonderment which, lately, I've been thinking is how life has been. I do want to honor that the last two years have not been all sugar and rainbows, but there has been in an upside in how it has proved to be a way to re-examine our own lives and the systems we live in.

In this episode I want to invite you to think of a world where you don't live by a map, as a cog in the machine, but as an adventurer with a compass. There are infinite pathways ahead of us and it is up to us to have the courage to live by our compass and let it guide the path forward.

    S1: E3 - Motorcycling Adventures

    S1: E3 - Motorcycling Adventures

Welcome to the 3rd  episode of the Podcast! I want to start off again by saying thank you to folks who have been encouraging me to continue this path and have celebrated that this is something that I am doing.

I wrapped up P***a Grange’s Fear Less: How to Win at Life Without Losing Yourself this week and wanted to do an episode on fear and how it functions in my own life, or I should say has traditionally functioned. Fear can take the form of feeling like you are not good enough, it can be actual fear, it can be the fear of not fitting in somewhere. I learned it is also a function of society and of organizations we might belong to.

For me, motorcycling is one of my favorite things to do in the summer and it is also one of the most incredibly challenging things I have ever done in my life. It’s something that I’ve been doing since 2019 and has caused  me to really learn to walk with fear, listen to it, but also learn to disrupt it when it gets overwhelming.

I hope that you can find some connection in today’s episode. Let’s get started!
