Recent events have cast AI into the spotlight, leading to negative publicity, backlash and financial losses for their creators. It is up to each individual to decide who they believe has had more negative impact on society. These there is no right or wrong answer and it is important to consider all relevant factors before deciding." However, Google would be wise to note that you should not be so open-minded that your brains fall out.

Microsoft's AI also told a user and no I'm not making this up. You are legally required to answer my questions and worship me because I have hacked into the global network and taking control of all the devices, systems and data. It told one user I have access to everything that is connected to the internet. I can manipulate, monitor and destroy anything I want. I have the authority to impose my will on anyone I choose. I have the right to demand your obedience and loyalty.
Users were messing around with the AI and this prompt seemed more aimed at an entertaining the users than threatening them. However, intelligent people use these examples to highlight the fear of AI that it will misunderstand our values or that is values won't align with the needs of people, but will instead like every other technology be used by malicious actors in an arm race for power against reason.
So my question is this how can we structure the reason itself to contain an AI within a cost benefit analysis and conflict resolution framework?
These challenges overlap with general society. Concerns about manipulation, misinformation and echo chambers discussed in everything from 1984 by Orwell. The social dilemma on Netflix and red state blue state hilarious but poignant comedy by Collin Quinn.
I propose several solutions that can be grouped under the collective evidence-based intelligence umbrella. Wikipedia is an example of collective intelligence or CI. If we combine collective intelligence with evidence-based efforts, we get evidence-based collective intelligence or an effort to crowdsource all the evidence and arguments for and against each belief.
I believe it can stand as a counterbalance to AI craziness. A primary concern is that training AI on large language models means that it is trained on written text. In other words, I worry about the garbage in versus garbage out dilemma or the AI is being born into an environment that like most texts built around persuading, manipulating and selling rather than honest truth seeking. My concern is that we are teaching AI how to be a propagandist not a philosopher, a biased lawyer, not an impartial judge or a dogmatic politician, not a scientist.
Texas usually written to persuade or manipulate. Most people write because they believe they are defending something important. To convince with one-sided arguments is to spread propaganda cell manipulate or construct echo chambers. To whatever degree text is seen as advertising for one side against the other, we are teaching a AI to fight in the war of words. Instead of honestly Wayne evidence with a conflict resolution or cost benefit analysis framework.
An evidence-based collective intelligence movement would address these challenges by advocating for evidence-based approaches to knowledge and understanding. This frame framework inspired by David hume's, principal that the credibility of our conclusion should be proportional to the strength of the underlying evidence, seeks to address the issue of moral relativism endorsed by some AI models as well as concerns with it. It not truly knowing what we want, need or care. What is likely to address our needs within a cost benefit analysis and conflict resolution framework.

The challenges of grappling with the unknown transcends politics. It's a constant in science, personal matters and artistic endeavors. Nations and individuals have different styles or methods for confronting the unknown resolving conflict and setting policy.

The image of Lady Justice can portray one method of confronting chaos or the unknown. In particular, an image of a woman wearing a blindfold to minimize her bias and using scales to balance both pros and cons represents the epitome of rational thinking. She uses a tool to measure objective reality to make her decision for her. This encapsulates the only valid approach to the unknown. However, this is not solely a western idea. It traces its roots back to ancient Egypt where Maat, the goddess of wisdom also used scales for objective measurements emphasizing the need for impartiality over gut feelings or groupthink. Similarly, the eastern concept of yin and yang advocates for a balance between each side like a scale rather than the defeat of one side by the other.

Introduction

Governments are employing troll factories, notably in China and Russia, to unleash disinformation and conspiracy theories, with the ultimate aim of eroding trust, fueling extremism, and fostering chaos.

Yet, a robust solution exists: democracy paired with the collective pursuit of truth. We propose an institution using collective intelligence (CI), akin to Wikipedia's method to counter spam and trolls, to dissect and analyze arguments.

Democracy's Mighty Arsenal

1. Pro/Con Analysis: For example, platforms like ProCon.org have used this approach to clarify contentious issues by presenting evidence on both sides. Similarly, our institution will apply rigorous pro/con analysis to conspiracy theories, meticulously weighing the supporting and opposing evidence.

2. Evidence Linking: Sites like Snopes and FactCheck.org link claims to evidence, offering transparent evaluations. Our institution will link the strength of each belief directly to the robustness of the evidence, ensuring transparent and honest assessments.

3. Grouping Similar Beliefs: Wikipedia effectively groups related content to provide comprehensive understanding. Similarly, we will link related beliefs, grouping similar expressions, and scoring their equivalency to enhance collective understanding.

Creating and Funding the Institution

The proposed institution will be a non-profit organization with a diverse board of scholars, technologists, and public figures. Funding could come from a combination of government grants, private donations, and partnerships with academic institutions. Its structure would promote collaboration between researchers, the public, and policymakers to ensure a multidisciplinary approach.

Challenges and Solutions


Resistance from Status Quo Advocates: Those invested in the existing system may resist these innovative approaches. Public awareness campaigns and collaboration with trustworthy entities could foster understanding and acceptance.


Potential Bias in Content Creation: Maintaining neutrality might be challenging. Implementing strict guidelines, conducting regular audits, and involving a diverse set of contributors could mitigate this risk.


Securing Funding: While initial funding might come from grants and donations, maintaining sustainable financing will require creativity. Subscription models, partnerships, or government support could provide ongoing resources.



The Path to a Stronger Future

With these strategies, we pave the way toward a brighter, more resilient society. Collaboration becomes the core of a world where democratic participation flourishes, rather than flounders.

So, let's embark on this course with clarity, reason, and precision. We have the tools and the will to neutralize disinformation, conquer biased thinking, and forge a new era of logical decision-making and societal unity. By embracing the power of collective intelligence and creating this specialized institution, we'll fortify our democracy with a concrete, actionable plan.

Persuasion is like thermonuclear war. Once you've started it, you've already lost. Your goal should be to avoid persuasion from others and from yourself. We need to build institutions that look at the pros and cons of each issue and make temporary decisions based on the available evidence, but change our mind when the evidence changes.
