146 - The Sean Hurley Interview: Behind John Mayer's Iconic Bass Lines
The year is 2006 and John Mayer has just recorded a landmark album that will put his new trio on the map. Drummer/producer Steve Jordan had the great idea of bringing Willie Weeks AND Pino Palladino in to play bass on one track, with Pino adding his own accompaniment to Week’s muted 8th note figure.
When Sean Hurley landed the bass gig with John Mayer in 2008, he combined both bass lines! So in today's interview, Sean is going to break it down note-for-note for you – and show you how to make it sound like TWO bass players are playing at the same time. Along with demonstrating four more iconic John Mayer bass grooves. -

Fun and interesting
Entertaining conversations about bass music from the view of professional bass players.
Irtitating plugging
Sometimes this podcast is ok but it’s usually destroyed by Scotts babbeling and plugging of his business, which a lot of us aren’t interested in. The part where different bassplayers get to talk about their career is often good listening but the rest is kind of a joke. Doesn’t this guy have any limiter to put on himself.
Super inspirational!
Super inspirational show for me as a bass player! Its really good for when you want a break from the academics and practicing of music and just want a good listen!
You just keep on giving Scott! Thank you!
