Youth Migration & Self-Isolation EDYN's Stories: Hear Our Voice

    • Samhälle och kultur

As the novel strain of coronavirus, COVID-19, forces travel restrictions, stay-at-home orders, and border lockdowns worldwide, EDYN Member Oleksandr Reshetkov interviews Josh R. Kroeker about living abroad, migration, brain drain, and what a country can do to make their educated youth return home. Although Canada is his home, Josh has lived abroad for nearly seven years, and being stuck abroad due to the pandemic prompts a discussion of why young people like himself are tempted to emigrate in search of education or opportunities and what that means for their home country.

Josh R. Kroeker studies international relations as a graduate student at Saint Petersburg State University, and he is a PhD candidate of Heidelberg University. Josh specializes in Russian and Ukrainian affairs. He has been involved in the European Union’s Erasmus+ program and works with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.

Oleksandr Reshetkov is an EDYN member from Ukraine. Oleksandr is the Deputy Head of NGO Solidarna Molod, the youth wing of the European Solidarity political party. Oleksandr is actively involved in social and political activities. As an International Secretary of the NGO European Youth Community, Oleksandr organized dozens of training courses for youth under the Erasmus+ program.
