This election year, our democracy hangs in the balance. We need news coverage that cuts past punditry and gives a voice to the new electorate – the marginalized folks that depend on a functioning democracy. Enter: The Amendment, a new podcast about gender, politics and power from The 19th News and Wonder Media Network, hosted by award-winning journalist and 19th editor-at-large Errin Haines.

Each week, Errin sits down with people who have fresh perspectives on the state of our country – and asks questions that center the voices of women, queer folks, and people of color. The Amendment adds much needed asterisks to America’s most pressing political conversations – and gets clear on the unfinished work of our democracy.

Understanding Trump’s Evangelical Base with NPR’s Sarah McCammon

Understanding Trump’s Evangelical Base with NPR’s Sarah McCammon

Over the last 40 years, evangelical Christians have become an influential voting block. White evangelical support for Donald Trump exceeded 80 percent in the 2016 election. The intensifying politicization of the evangelical movement has been too much for some, and many are leaving the church. To understand the voting patterns of evangelicals and the exodus of young evangelicals, Errin chats with Sarah McCammon, a national political correspondent for NPR and author of “The Exvangelicals: Loving, Living, and Leaving the White Evangelical Church.”

Destigmatizing Sex Work with Yin Q

Destigmatizing Sex Work with Yin Q

Asian massage workers and sex workers have long been the targets of violence in America – but their stories often get pushed to the margins. This week, as AAPI Heritage Month begins, we’re pulling those stories to the center. Yin Q – one of the core organizers of Red Canary Song, a collective organizing with and for Asian and migrant sex workers – joins the show to share some of the stories of their community, break down the history of violence against Asian sex and massage workers, and sketch out what a future where sex work is decriminalized would look like.

Climate Is a Reproductive Justice Issue with Jessica Kutz

Climate change and reproductive justice aren’t often linked – but they should be. Everyone Watches Women's Sports with Jemele Hill

Women’s basketball has come a long way since Title IX in 1972. But not far enough. This week, Errin is joined by her friend Jemele Hill, the sports journalist, to talk all things women’s basketball. Jemele breaks down how far women’s basketball has come — as evidenced by this year’s women’s NCAA tournament — while also highlighting how far it has to go when it comes to media coverage and pay equity.

Imagining New Realities with Stacey Abrams

Imagining New Realities with Stacey Abrams

Stacey Abrams has a big imagination. She’s used it to expand Georgia’s electorate, be the first Black woman to be a major-party nominee for governor and write 16 books across multiple genres. This week on the show, Stacey sits down with Errin to share how she imagines American policy and democracy shifting —  from tax policy to electrical grids to galvanizing non-voters.
