The Best Of Year 3: Legacy with Dr. Derrick Burgess

The Best Of Year 3: Legacy with Dr. Derrick Burgess

Time is our most valuable asset, but when we don’t make the most out of it, regret may overcome us. Every moment wasted is an opportunity lost, and the weight of missed chances can be a heavy burden to bear. Sometimes, we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, forgetting to spend time with loved ones and making the most of what we’re capable of in making a difference in the world and the lives of others.

As was the life of Big Daddy, a shining example of how to use time wisely. Big Daddy lived his life to the fullest, always making sure to spend time with his family and help those in his community. He showed us that the best way to use our time is by building strong relationships, giving back, and leaving a positive impact on the world. He made sure his family felt loved and supported, and he worked hard to improve the lives of everyone around him. Thus, his legacy teaches us that time spent helping others and standing up for what is right is never wasted.

I’m thrilled to share an episode that is deeply personal and significant to me. In this episode, I reflect on the final moments I shared with my grandfather, Charlie Burgess Sr., affectionately known as Big Daddy. This reflection isn't just about personal memories but about the legacy he left behind—a legacy that goes beyond financial inheritance and encompasses family values, rituals, and making a lasting impact on the community. Join me in this heartfelt episode as we celebrate the incredible legacy of Charlie Burgess Sr., a man whose life embodied the spirit of service, love, and community. Stay tuned and enjoy this episode.

How to Cultivate a Winning Mindset with Dr. Eric Peters

How to Cultivate a Winning Mindset with Dr. Eric Peters

Every pursuit, no matter how humble, deserves the touch of greatness. Achieving greatness is a challenging pursuit. Some people may perceive it in ways that seem easy to reach and attain, but in reality, greatness demands every possible effort you can give. It's like climbing a mountain. If you want to reach the top, you can't just sit down and hope someone will carry you up. You have to keep pushing yourself, even when it's tough. You can't just sit back and expect greatness to come to you. You have to work for it every day.

Sometimes, when people see the weight of effort greatness requires, they tend to quit striving and settle on being just an average in their chosen fields. Sure, it might seem easier to just coast along, doing the bare minimum, but deep down, you know you're capable of more. Therefore, dream big and give your very best in all that you do. Always remember that everything starts in our minds, the plans, visions, and steps. We are capable of being our best version if only we begin looking at things through the lens of positivity and continuous learning despite the adversities.

His story shows us that we can find ways to achieve our goals, even if they seem difficult at first. The Best of Year 3: Breaking Barriers in Medicine with Dr. Omolara Uwemedimo

The Best of Year 3: Breaking Barriers in Medicine with Dr. Omolara Uwemedimo

Success in healthcare is not measured solely in patient numbers but in the positive impact, we make on the communities we serve. In our world, not everyone has the same chance to be healthy. Some people face obstacles that make it harder for them to access good healthcare and live a healthy life. Certain groups of people have their health at risk due to unfair barriers and unequal opportunities, making it difficult for them to afford their needed medicine.

Moreover, it is vital to realize that health injustice happens to many people not because they don’t care about their health but because of specific reasons including the place they were born, their income, or even the color of their skin. Hence, to fix these problems, we must work towards a healthcare system that goes beyond just treating illnesses but also addresses the root causes of health inequalities. Therefore, at the end of the day, healthcare is a right and not a privilege determined by one's background or circumstances.

Dr. Omolara Uwemedimo is a healthcare founder, social entrepreneurship coach, healthcare practice funding consultant, and growth strategist for women of color in healthcare. Her career as a pediatrician spans almost 2 decades and includes her work as a public health researcher & professor for over a decade. Her work has been defined by a passion for social justice, serving as an advocate and working as a global physician across sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. Dr. Omolara co-founded Strong Children Wellness which provides integrated physical health, mental health, and social services for minoritized, low-income children and families. She founded Melanin & Medicine which helps mission-driven practices secure capital without incurring debt or diluting equity. Dr. Uwemedimo is an expert in purpose-led entrepreneurship, securing funding for healthcare, addressing medical racism for marginalized providers and patients, and building socially responsive healthcare spaces.

In this special episode with Dr. Omolara Uwemedimo, we will learn about the journey of a remarkable woman who has not only embraced diverse roles in healthcare but has also pioneered innovative approaches to address the needs of the underserved. The conversation highlights her dedication to healthcare, her global perspective, and her commitment to health equity and justice. Growing Together: 15 years of Life, Sports, and Medicine with Dr. Derrick Burgess

Growing Together: 15 years of Life, Sports, and Medicine with Dr. Derrick Burgess

Behind every victory, there is a story of sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering support from those who champion our dreams alongside us. Marriage is a commitment many of us take for granted. We often focus on the visible accomplishments and accolades, forgetting the countless moments of quiet support and sacrifice that made those achievements possible. Some of us fail to appreciate our spouses and end up regretting the missed opportunities to express gratitude and love.

Hence, we must realize that marriage goes beyond just feelings and requires love in a deeper sense. It includes daily effort, understanding, constant support, patience, and a willingness to put the partnership above individual desires — which often involves sacrifices and some compromise. It's about being there for each other through good times and bad, celebrating victories together, and comforting each other during failures. So, dear friends, if you are considering marriage, find someone who not only makes you happy but, most importantly, someone who strives to bring out the better version of you.

In this special episode, I will share with you the things I want to celebrate as a father and a husband, the lessons I've learned, and the things in my marriage that shaped me into the person I am today. I also want to highlight my heartfelt appreciation to my wife throughout the fifteen years of our marriage for being the anchor of our family and for her unwavering love and support. I am endlessly grateful for the gift of her presence in my life and look forward to the adventures that await us in the years to come. Here's to celebrating the joys of fatherhood, the beauty of marriage, and the blessings of family.

How to Turn Podcasting into a Platform for Growth and Success with Dr. Derrick Burgess

How to Turn Podcasting into a Platform for Growth and Success with Dr. Derrick Burgess

Embracing opportunities often means stepping out of our comfort zone. Perfectionism can be a hindrance, but seizing the moment opens doors to unforeseen successes. Starting something new can feel scary, like taking a plunge into the unknown. Whether it's writing a book, starting a business, or launching a podcast, it's natural to feel uncomfortable. But it's in those moments of discomfort that we find growth.

However, many of us fall into the trap of perfectionism, where we get stuck in wanting everything to be just right before we even begin. This mindset can hold us back from starting something new or taking the first step. While we are waiting for the perfect moment, which may not come, we miss out on opportunities along the way. Therefore, we must learn to embrace imperfection and take action despite our fears. Instead of waiting for everything to align perfectly, we should focus on progress over perfection.

In this special episode, I will share with you my journey over the past three years of podcasting, the reasons why I started, and the incredible opportunities it has brought me. I will provide insights on why podcasting has been a game-changer for me, offering a platform to establish authority, expand my network, and connect with incredible individuals from various fields. I also want to reach out to young physicians to join our upcoming virtual seminar, "The Home Stretch." This seminar aims to equip you with essential knowledge on contract negotiations, debt management, investing, and entrepreneurship, helping you navigate the early stages of your medical career with confidence and clarity. Tune in for an inspiring discussion and valuable insights.
