Don of the Antarctic
Our Project Coordinator Danielle talks to Don, a Living Streets associate in Scotland, about the amazing story of his journey to the Antarctic, and how he uses this story to inspire children to make the links between Antarctica, climate change, and walking to school in Scotland. We’re lucky to also hear from one of the world’s greatest explorers, Robert Swan, who was the first person to walk to both Poles. He shares a special message to the children and families of the UK.

4. A walk through Edinburgh's movie locations
Soaking up the culture and history of our streets is not only a great excuse to get out, it's a great way of connecting with our public space. The rise of guided walks is something that underlines how the best way to experience a place is in person and on foot.
In this episode, our project coordinator, Dani, visits some notable movie locations in Edinburgh, with a little help from her friend Laurence from the Sphere podcast.
Here's a map of Danielle's walk: www.livingstreets.org.uk/edinburgh-film-walk

3. "Is walking a super power?"
To mark National Walking Month and Mental Health Awareness Week (18-24 May 2020), we have a short interview with Shane O'Mara, Professor of Experimental Brain Research at Trinity College, Dublin.
In his book In Praise Of Walking, Shane goes deep into the science of why walking upright has not only given people an evolutionary advantage, but also plays an important part in how our bodies and brains function all day long.
Our Matthew recorded a short chat with Shane before his keynote address at our National Walking Summit in Manchester in March (pre-coronavirus outbreak).
You can also listen to Shane's full keynote presentation here - and we highly recommend it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMnM4buMSjw

2. "Where do you miss walking?"
A tweet from a "homesick" Glaswegian prompted us to think about the places we miss walking during the pandemic - so we asked a handful of the Living Streets to tell us about the walks they miss this National Walking Month.

1. "What does walking mean to you?"
In our first podcast for National Walking Month 2020, we look back to our National Walking Summit in Manchester in March, before the coronavirus lockdown, where a handful of the UK's active travel leads spoke, and we asked them about walking means to them personally.
