The Trial Begins.
We are off to a big start in the explosive opening statements.
It's one of the most polarizing cases in true crime history, and we haven't even made it to trial yet. A 16 year veteran of the Boston Police Department, left to die in one of the biggest blizzards in Massachusetts history. Prosecution has charged his girlfriend, 42 year old Karen Read, with his murder, claiming she hit him with her car during a fight and left him to die in the cold. The defense says Read is being framed, set up to take the fall by one of the most powerful families in this Boston suburb- all to protect one of their own.
There are discrepancies in statements, missing camera footage, and deep family ties to everyone from the lead investigator to the attorney general’s office, to the judge. With every new piece of evidence, a new controversy arises.

Karen Read coverage bravo
I’m an avid watcher of Court TV and love trials in true crime. I had heard about the Karen Reed case and knew that people were protesting and that there was an alleged police cover up, but I was skeptical and had no idea what all the details of the case were. your podcast came up as a recommendation on my Apple page, and I immediately was drawn in. Some people may criticize the heaviness of your reporting, but you’re doing it in the most unbiased and well research way possible. I definitely have a much better understanding of the case. And even though I can’t say for sure, she was framed, I think there’s enough doubt about what happened that night to procure a conviction against Karen Reed. There is definitely reasonable doubt. And just like you I always tell listeners of my podcast called BLEAK that there’s a huge distinction between generalized out and reasonable doubt, and that distinction makes all the difference in the world.
Keep doing what you’re doing. I will who loves deep dives or needs more info about this case.
Great! But sound?
My wife and i love this podcast but the sound mixing is unprofessional. We listen in the car while our daughter sleeps but when recordings are being played the volume is super low, we have to crank it on our end. As soon as the narrator comes back on she’s blaring loud. It’s easy to fix this and i hope the creator does!
