14. From Lyme Disease to Chronic Illness Advocate: Transmuting Pain Into Purpose | w/ Micaela Hoo How I Met Myself

    • Spirituality

In today’s episode, Jessica interviews Micaela Hoo about chronic illness, her struggles to get to the root of her health problems and how she has used the mantra “mind over matter” to turn her suffering into an opportunity to serve others.

Since early childhood, Micaela has experienced an array of symptoms, including severe digestive problems, rashes and joint pain. For years, she bounced from one specialist to another, managing her symptoms through pharmaceutical treatments, but she was always left wondering what the root cause was and when the next flare up would be.

It wasn’t until she conducted her own research and tapped into an online community for people with chronic illness that she was led to a Lyme literate doctor and finally received a diagnosis for Lyme disease, two co-infections of Lyme - Lyme Babesia and Bartonella, mold toxicity and mycotoxins, parasite overgrowth, Candida overgrowth and Hashimoto's disease.

In spite of the oftentimes crippling symptoms, Micaela has transmuted pain into purpose, co-founding two business endeavors - My July, a plant-based gentle skincare line, and Chronically Hacked, an online course designed to help people navigate the confusing world of chronic illness.

During the episode, Jessica and Micaela discuss:

How she navigated the medical system and ultimately gained clarity on her health issues
Her beautiful mindset that has given her the strength to persevere
How she views her experience with chronic illness as a gift
How she wants to serve others by helping people understand their health issues

Whether you or someone you know has struggled with chronic health issues or if you experience symptoms and are unsure of the root cause, Micaela is an excellent resource. And no matter the state of your health, Micaela offers listeners a beautiful mindset and tools they can use to reframe any challenge.
