Addiction can take a toll on the addict long after they quit. KOH's Daniela Sonnino talks with Boone Cutler, a military vet and former opioid user, about how he almost died last year from the after effects of long term use in the conclusion of our five part series "A Prescription for Addiction: The Opioid Crisis One Year Later."

Addiction can be a vicious cycle, with 40 to 60% of addicts relapsing after they quit. KOH's Daniela Sonnino sat down with one of our addicts from last year, Tom, who spent time in rehab to get clean. We find out if he still is, and how he's dealing with life in part four of our five part series "A Prescription for Addiction: The Opioid Crisis One Year Later."

Between 2000 and 2009, babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome, a condition resulting from prenatal opioid exposure, rose by 300%. Today we'll hear from the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies at University of Nevada, Reno to learn about a new program that was implemented in Las Vegas last year, and will soon be available for new moms and their babies here in part three of our five part series "A Prescription for Addiction: The Opioid Crisis One Year Later."

Thanks to the Farm Bill funding signed in 2018 that allocates 20 percent of all monies towards telemedicine to combat opioids in rural areas, technology is now bringing counseling, therapy, and other mental health services to opioid addicts living in outlying parts of Nevada. Last year we brought to you our ten part series "A Prescription for Addiction-The Opioid Crisis in Northern Nevada." We wanted to revisit the topic this year to look at advancements in policy and procedures to combat the rampant rise in addicts, and to see how a couple of the people facing addiction that we featured are doing now.
