The Notes from the Podcast
The following are the notes from the podcast. “432 – The New Heavens and Earth.” I have all the Scriptures written out, so it will be easy for you to follow along as you listen.
On the podcast show notes below, I have a way for people to ask me questions. When anyone asks a biblical question, I try to help them find the answers. Recently, someone asked about the new Heaven and the new Earth. This is how I answer the question.
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven[s] and the earth.”
In Hebrew, the first word is God. God created the heavens with an s and the Earth in the beginning. God always comes first in life, and we always try to keep God first in our lives. The first word is God, and this is the first time the word created is used in the Bible. The only one who can create is God. Sometimes, people say they created things like music or art; they bring something into the laboratory and put two components together, and they create something new. That's not creating. Creating is bringing something into existence that has never been there before. God is the only one who can do that. The word create is only used three times in the opening chapters of Genesis.
Genesis 1:2 “And the earth was [became] without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
The word 'was' was not there. It should be the word became. The word became without form and void empty. The word void means empty. Not created that way but became that way.
Isaiah 45:18 “For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.”
God did not create it this way. Something happened between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 of a catastrophic situation, Something of a destructive situation that destroyed what God first created. Something happened that we need to be aware of. In my class on “How to Read the Bible for Understanding and Power," I have a section of the class that deals with the first three chapters of Genesis. It's episode number 353. The class is on my website. I get into what happened between Genesis 1:1 and 1 2 which is not part of the scope of what I'm teaching today. You ought to know it, and you can go to the episode and listen.
2 Peter 3:5 & 6 “For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:”
The world that was is talking about Genesis 1:1.
2 Peter 3:7 “But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”
This is talking about the world in which we now live and is still going on.
