6. Weight Gain, Going All In, and Writing a Book with Stephanie Buttermore DEATS with Deanna: Discussions around Food & Entrepreneurship

    • Nutrition

In this episode, Deanna sits down with Stephanie Buttermore, a PhD who has transitioned from the world of academia to a world of sharing her life and passion for the things I love. Using social media, she entertains, but most importantly, educates on the scientific principles of training and nutrition. She's taken her many years of experience reading and writing scientific literature to understanding the fundamentals of exercise science.
In this episode you’ll hear:
How 2021 has been going so far, the goals she is focusing on this year, and the journey of writing a book (3:42) Many people seem to misunderstand her journey especially as it's framed within this mindset of diet culture, restrictive eating, and how women’s bodies must always be tiny. (11:21) What setpoint weight is and why people should focus on accepting their bodies where it is at the happiest and healthiest rather than focusing on arbitrary numbers. (19:32) Stephanie’s approach with her “all-in” process, how it helped her reach her goals, and what she would have done differently in hindsight (21:53) How this new approach to eating impacted her mental health positively and how. She manages to keep going in times where she felt tempted to go back to a more restrictive eating pattern (31:29) What the process of the “all in journey” looked like for Stephanie from start to finish and what really surprised her the most about this whole experience (37:31) Her experience of being a fitness personality and how professionally competing in bodybuilding competitions changed her approach to eating and into the spectrum of disordered eating. She talks about the pressure of being the “fit” friend and having to live up to a certain standard even if it didn’t benefit her body positively (43:22)  Core values that now guide her journey, what she wants to be remembered for and how bodies are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things (50:51) Stephanie shares the one big thing you should take away from this episode and immediately apply to your life (54:48) Connect with Stephanie:
