8 Broke Students Present: Climate Change Theatre Action Aotearoa 2021 etilley

Join William and the 8 Broke Students team in the wonderful soundscape of 'Love Out of the Ruins', a collaboratively scripted Climate Change Theatre Action play by Zoë Svendsen. Zoë directs the UK performing arts company Metis Project, making participatory performances exploring contemporary political subjects. We chose this play because of its hopeful vision for the future, and the ability it gave us to craft a 'great turnaround' narrative specifically for Aotearoa.

Haleigh and Chris from 8 Broke Students have written their own play, ‘Bridge the Gap’, about a brother and sister who must come together and confront their environmental differences after the death of their mother. With William as narrator, Haleigh plays ‘Chloe’, a ‘lean, green, vegan machine’ while Simon, played by Chris, is her high-flying, profit-focused brother. Bridget and Lauren bring you their hilarious audio rendition of Mark Rigney’s Climate Change Theatre Action play Sammie & Gran. Mark has won multiple national playwriting contests and had plays produced in 22 US states plus Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, and Nepal. Chris and William from '8 Broke Students' present 'Us in the Past' by Nathan Ellis, a futuristic look back at how change now can and will change the future. Nathan is from the UK and is currently based in Berlin. He was a member of the Royal Court Invitation Writers’ Supergroup 2018-19 and in 2020 his play Super High Resolution was shortlisted for the Verity Bargate Award. 'Us in the Past' is an official Climate Change Theatre Action 2021 selection, presented here with Nathan's permission.

Our first Climate Change Theatre Action Aotearoa episode features an interview with Hinerangi Rhind-Wiri from Para Kore, our chosen community partner. Para Kore is a community-based, not-for-profit, by Māori, for Māori organization that delivers waste minimization education throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
