Corona Extra #2 - How To Get Through Hard Times
This week I had the opportunity to teach an online group of Christians from a local church. After a discussion of theology, scripture, and spiritual practice, they asked if I had any wisdom to share regarding these difficult times. Here is what I shared with them.

We talk about intensity, aggression, and passion.

Weapons?? Yes. Weapons.

OUCH! Physical and Spiritual Injuries
Injuries. We talk about the impact of injuries, how to recover from them, and what are some examples of spiritual injuries. I suggest that there is a lot we can learn in our spiritual and religious life from how we deal with injuries on and off the mat.

Marshall and I talk about the Hebrew word Kavanah, and the role of focus, direction, concentration, and aim in developing the meaning and purpose of our devotional and martial practice.

Incredibly inspiring and thought provoking
Definitely worth a listen!!
some fresh inspiration when we can use it
It's nice to hear a fresh way to find some inspiration, at a time when I've been feeling a little weary of the world and trying to turn inward. Rabbi Norry's approach is a good way to find some inner focus, drawing on sports and one's physical self to boost one's spiritual technique.
Brilliant, insightful, and entertaining!
This is a wonderfully engaging series of deep dives into martial arts, spirituality, music, athletics, and life. Rabbi Hillel draws upon his own traditions (Judaism, Tae Kwan do, etc.), but derives universal truths from them.
How is punching hard and fast like praying?
When is a race won; at the beginning, middle, or end?
What’s the true function of ritual, whether practicing scales or reciting psalms or drawing 60-second portrait sketches?
What is the positive essence of heresy, and what do we have to do to prepare to be worthy of the name “heretic” - and what does this have to do with the high jump?
If you love self-improvement, high performance, spiritual development, and wide-ranging, erudite, and wise storytelling, do yourself a favor and subscribe and listen. It’s the best “out-there” take on religion for those of us who’ve become jaded and distant from the technologies available in all great traditions.
Study with the master, and grow. Thanks, Hillel, for the care and time you put into each episode.
