Unpacking Your Golf Story And How it Impacts Your Game

Unpacking Your Golf Story And How it Impacts Your Game

This episode is all about the stories we tell ourselves about our golf games and how those tales can either lift us up or weigh us down. Ever finish a round and then chat about it over lunch with your buddies? Those recaps, the ones you share or just replay in your head, they really shape how we feel about our game. This episode dives into recognizing when we're stuck in a negative loop, like blaming the wind or bad bounces, and how to flip the script. It's about seeing where we can take a bit more control, maybe by ditching the blame game or by getting out and practicing in the rain if that's what gets us.  By tweaking the stories we tell about our golf rounds, focusing more on what we can control and less on what we can't, we can actually start enjoying the game more and maybe even knock a few strokes off our scores. The episode is really a nudge to own our golf stories in a way that benefits us on and off the course.

That's what this podcast dives into, exploring the concept that your everyday habits and mindset don't just disappear when you're playing golf. From discussing how perfectionism or a lack of trust can mess with your performance to the power of being aware of these patterns, this episode is all about identifying what you might want to change to boost not just your game but also your day-to-day vibes. How to Know When You Played Too Much Golf

How to Know When You Played Too Much Golf

In this episode of Above Par, Kathy delves into the often-asked question among golf enthusiasts: 'How much golf is too much?' Starting with an anecdote from a member of The Above Par Academy, who feels she's playing too much due to back pain, the discussion broadens to physical discomfort as a clear indicator of overdoing the sport.

Kathy explores various perspectives on the concept of 'too much golf,' highlighting that it's subjective and varies from one individual to another. The conversation also covers other signs of playing excessively, such as mental exhaustion, loss of interest, and the toll of continuous competitive play. Emphasis is placed on the mental challenges of golf, including managing emotions and maintaining focus, which can lead to mental fatigue. Kathy suggests ways to avoid burnout, such as listening to one's body, taking breaks, and seeking professional help for physical pain.

If you want to create better results with your golf, level up your mental game and explore what is really holding you back on the course, get coached live in The Above Par Academy.

The Perfect Amount of Information

I love listening to Kathy’s podcasts. She has great topics that pertain to all levels of golfers. As a fellow teaching professional I am always trying to express some of her insights to my own students. She gives great information that I can share with them. I love that they are less than 15-20 minutes long as well. (I can only focus that long anymore ) I only wish I had had something like this to help me when I was a younger player it would have made a huge difference in my game. It actually has me playing better now than I ever have. Keep Up the good work Kathy. I’m spreading your words of wisdom and your podcast to all my members.

So much more than golf

“You only have one brain”. I say this to myself all the time now- I realize that the way I approach golf is how I approach a lot of things in life. Thank you Kathy!!
