Great hosts and an informative podcast

I like the concept of looking back on all the past Academy winners and discussing the films, pop culture, and decisions made through a modern lens. The hosts are knowledgeable and informative!

Great Idea, bad delivery, so far

Ok, so I gave these guys two stars instead of 1 because I need to hear more. I listened to the 1984 review (of the 1983 movies) and they were all over the place. The Big Chill review summed it up. No knowledge of the movie, stated John Hurt 3x and William actually was in this movie. I get it, honest mistake and no concept why a movie made in 1983 about some 30 somethings getting together for a funeral, with an amazing sound track, some great actors, and some really interesting storylines, would be a good movie. They also didn't know what was going on in 1983. Uh, World War III was probably the biggest thing on most peoples minds. WarGames, Testament, The Day After ring a bell? Also, movies like Under Fire, Uncommon Valor, Gorky Park had some very interesting themes that reflected the times.
I would agree that the Big Chill was a reach for an academy award nominated film in a year with Scarface, Return of the Jedi, Silkwood, Trading Places, Zelig, etc, and I agree that the Outsiders got ripped off a bit (perhaps the academy was not impressed by it's cousin, Rumble Fish coming out in the same year) but you can do much better. Looking forward to hearing some more to see if I can draw a different conclusion.

Watch the movies before you go an Oscar recap podcast.

There are quite a few Oscar/Awards podcasts out there. Some really great and some really bad. Unfortunately, this one falls in the latter. If you’re going to do an Oscar recap podcast, at least watch all of the nominated films and performances.

I get there was some time and budget issues that prevented some of the commentators not to see everything. Do the listeners who want to hear a critique of the Oscars, the winners and nominees a favor. Don’t participate in the podcast . Also, don’t discuss categories that none of participants haven’t seen any of the nominees.

BTW, all of the International Feature nominees are all on Hulu and have been prior to the Oscars. All of the Documentary Features are on Netflix and Hulu . Some of the Shorts are on You Tube for free.

I wasn’t able to finish this podcast because of the lack of knowledge, history, mispronounced names of the nominees and the sheer frustration of listening to uniformed podcasters. Will definitely not be subscribing this one.
