The ARA is a global coalition committed to action for adaptation that strengthens resilience in communities most vulnerable to climate change. Our membership is made up of researchers, funders, policymakers, development bodies and community-based organisations that support a paradigm shift in the way adaptation solutions are generated. We endorse action-oriented research that is driven by user needs, co-produced with local experts, and equitable in practice. The ARA is an advocate, facilitator, and catalyst for action-oriented research, that delivers resources to those working on-the-ground for adaptation to climate change.

S1, Ep. 2: What is action research?
Action research has many definitions, but the ARA has been on a journey to co-define it for adaptation.
Host, Nora NIsi, is joined by Sunayana Sen to discuss the impact of DARAJA, a climate risk communication service that captures the essence of action research. They discuss how DARAJA has impacted communities in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, and how it places users, particularly those in vulnerable communities, at the center of the service.
Why does the ARA focus on action research as a key mechanism for effecting change? Bruce Currie-Alder chats to Nora about why action research is different, and how the ARA and its members are working to enhance equity and justice as communities navigate climate change.
Communities are at the heart of action research for adaptation, says Dr Sumetee Pahwa Gajjar, who joins Nora to discuss other action research projects. She touches on principles that the alliance says underpin the approach, and introduces global action research projects, in addition to DARAJA, that were reviewed in the ARA report: Good Practices for Adaptation Action Research.

S1, Ep. 1: Why we need an alliance for adaptation
There’s no denying this is ‘the decade for action’ for climate change. In today's interconnected world, climate change impacts cross borders and disrupt systems. The time is now to adapt to these impacts, and that’s where the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA) comes in.
In the first episode of the Action for Adaptation podcast we ask, what is the ARA and what is its purpose? Who are the people behind the alliance? What did its remarkable trajectory to COP26 look like - and how can people get involved in its ambitious agenda of action for adaptation?
Host, Aditya Bahadur, chats to ARA co-chair Professor Anand Patwardhan about the ARA’s goals over the next decade. Jessie DeMaria-Kinney, the ARA’s head of secretariat, speaks about what the growth of the ARA signals. Dr Poorti Sapatnekar joins to unpack the climate summit COP26 and the response the ARA had when launching at the global event. ARA Members Katy Harris and Dr Vikrom Mathur also join in to share how the focusing on adaptation is a global responsibility.
