AL-Furqan Islamic Centre began as an aspiration in a single room on the 1st floor of the Unity House as a prayer hall and function room. The core motivation of this project was troubled youth, youth without any recreational outlet, and community that was dispersed and disconnected. After realising the substantial increase of the community in Manchester, the need for an all-round Islamic community centre was realised. To satisfy the needs of the growing community, the entire unity building is used for a wide variety of community activities e.g. lectures, conferences, Friday sermons, and youth and after school clubs. The centre was established in 1996 to provide curricular activities tailored to the need of our community as well as housing our conferences and community events. The centre we dreamed of is not only for the daily prayers but also a place where we could prepare the next generations to benefit themselves and the wider society.
