The presentation will incorporate relevant case studies that take learners through common clinical scenarios to demonstrate how screening, counseling, and pharmacotherapy for alcohol use disorder can be implemented in primary care. The learner will be guided through a sample workflow that demonstrates steps for the clinician to take following a positive screening result for unhealthy alcohol use in primary care. Learners will receive information on how to conduct brief counseling in the clinic for patients who have risky drinking behaviors, as well as how to provide evidence-based pharmacotherapy for patients with AUD. Brief video demonstrations of motivational interviewing techniques used in the context of counseling for risky drinking will be included in the presentation.
