How Breakthroughs Occur - Marjorie Thompson

How Breakthroughs Occur - Marjorie Thompson

https://Art2Life.com - What does it look like to have a creative breakthrough? How do we get to the next level in our art-making? The artist's journey can be a long one. It can feel uneven and effortful, especially in the beginning. After coaching thousands of artists I’ve noticed that breakthroughs tend to happen when someone’s art starts to look like them and becomes truly connected to their inspiration.
I met Marjorie Thompson as a part of the Creative Visionary Program I ran in 2020. Her art improved considerably but recently I noticed something else. It took an even bigger dramatic shift into breakthrough territory. I had to chat with her about it. Has she noticed the change?  How did she achieve this? My hope is that as you listen to our conversation, you might begin to understand a little more about breakthroughs and how they occur. They are waiting in the wings for all of us.

The Artist’s Gift - Nicholas Wilton

The Artist’s Gift - Nicholas Wilton

https://Art2Life.com - One of the many gifts that artists possess is a unique sensitivity to the world around us. We feel…EVERYTHING. If the lighting is off, we know. If the volume is too loud, we know. If a live band's tempo is slightly dragging you can almost guarantee that every musician in the audience is losing their collective mind. But we also feel deeper things. Like when an opportunity is presenting itself or when someone might be dishonest. And while feeling everything so deeply and so constantly may seem like a burden to some, the story of how I learned to embrace this part of myself is one I will never forget.
Join me, as I share the story of a chance college encounter that changed my life. This meeting allowed me to recognize that my sensitivity is what enables me to be an artist in the first place. However, my paradigm shift didn’t happen because I met a person. I owe it all to a wild baby crow.

    My World - Dillon Froelich

    My World - Dillon Froelich

https://Art2Life.com - It can take decades to create a unified but unique direction in our art. Many artists will stick to one medium for a long time to develop consistency in their work. But my guest for this episode took an entirely different path and his art beautifully reflects that. Rather than zeroing in on one thing, he went wide…REALLY wide.

Dillon Froelich is a multidisciplinary artist based out of Sausalito, California with roots in the surf and skate culture of South Florida. The most amazing part of Dillon’s story for me is how early into his career he found himself as an artist…like, right out of college early! Dillon is creating an entire universe where his characters, colors, and ideas commingle in large paintings, animations, illustrations, sneakers, skateboard designs, and graphic novels. He not only makes art for himself, but Disney, Fox Animation, and Volcom, to name a few.

Everything Dillon Froelich does is so uniquely him. Much of that can be attributed to his main criteria for art-making: it has to be fun. It seems so simple, right? But it’s often the missing ingredient for many artists trying to break through, myself included. What would it be like to take ourselves less seriously? To be more open to all the possibilities for our creativity? Let’s find out in this week’s eye-opening and inspiring conversation!

    Staying Passionate - Gary Ruddell

    Staying Passionate - Gary Ruddell

https://Art2Life.com - Do you ever struggle to stay engaged with your own art-making? I do. Approaching a blank canvas or notebook page with the same level of passion as the first time can be difficult for artists at any level. That’s why I love meeting people who consistently stay motivated when it comes to their art.
My guest for this episode is Gary Ruddell and he embodies this passion. Gary has a fine art career that spans decades and he’s one of the most enthusiastic people I know. Though he has transitioned styles over the years, across thousands of wonderful images, he still manages to bring unbridled passion to both his life and his art.
In this episode, we’ll discover how Gary has maintained his artistic passion, lessons he’s learned along the way, as well as take a look at his incredibly consistent art practice. Join me for a conversation that I hope inspires all of us to pursue our art-making with a passion like Gary’s. To push past our own limitations and bring our art to life in new and exciting ways.

Wood + Nails - John Henson

Wood + Nails - John Henson

https://Art2Life.com - The capacity for creativity and art-making is in all of us. It’s built into our DNA as human beings. However, the journey to discover that creative potential is different for every single person. This is what fascinates me the most. The story of how someone finds their art is often just as thrilling as the art itself, and believe me, do I have a story for you!
My guest for this episode is John Henson. John has been a close personal friend for over 30 years and yet, I feel like I’m just getting to know him as an artist. He would probably say the same thing because he never viewed himself as an artist until suddenly, that changed. Ten years ago John reconnected with his own creativity and began making truly unique and personal art that defies the limitations of categories.
Using wood and nails, John tapped into the artist he always wanted to be while finding beauty and healing in unexpected places. His story serves as a reminder that the possibility for our own art-making lies just beneath the surface of ourselves. I hope this episode helps you find it.

Love the December wayfinding

Thank you so much for reminding me of how important this spaciousness is when turning the focus on myself. I have learned to pay attention to humble inquiry in my day to day life - but duh- I hadn’t considered what it means in my art making. As I work to bring my life and art into relationship and find my way, this is an absolute pivotal concept. Thank you for sharing your own journey - that’s my favorite part about your podcasts. With gratitude!❤️

Nick- I’m loving these interviews. You are a master at inspiring great topics and great dialogue. You continue to inspire me and many others to continue the process of art making. The more you get into how our authenticity informs our art, the more excited I get about creating.
Thank you for creating this space ☀️
