Learn to Paint Podcast

I've been listening to podcasts since 2006. This one is exceptional: the host, Kelly Anne Powers, asks very clear questions of her guests, within a loose format so the conversation flows. I especially like hearing what their process is, what materials they use, and what their color palette consists of. I have been able to glean very useful information from her interviews, which has helped me get going after a few years of spinning my wheels. Recently, I joined her 20-in-20 challenge, and it helped me so much towards developing my style. I’m a printmaker and collage artist (not a painter), and yet I still get so much value from the “Learn to Paint” podcast. The host asks really smart questions and I find that there are nuggets of wisdom I can apply to my own work. And who knows—maybe someday I will take the leap and become a painter! If so, I know where to look for guidance. ;-)

While I don’t love every artist that is on the show, Kelly’s masterful observations and open, intuitive questions allow guests to truly answer with freedom and space. So many podcasters ask closed, leading questions that don’t allow folks to talk openly and flow from topic to topic. Talking about visual art in a non-visual medium can be a challenge and this podcast has found a way to do it in such an engaging and interesting way. I hope you never stop!
