The Origin of My K-Drama Obsession

Welcome to K-Dreaming! My name is Mel, and you may know me as one of the co-hosts of the podcast, AsianBossGirl. Through that podcast, you might recognize me as someone who’s a fan of pop culture & media… but if you REALLY know me, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Korean dramas and K-Pop.
In “K-Dreaming”, my hope is to extend that connection out and allow people to float away into this fantasyland.
Today, we’ll explore the OG K-Drama that opened the doors to this fantastical world for me, “Full House”! We’ll also talk through other notable K-Dramas that have made my heart fill with love and anticipation *dugeun dugeun*
    It’s K-Dreaming Time…

Our Hall Passes: Asian Men Edition

Our Hall Passes: Asian Men Edition

Today, we are celebrating Asian men in pop culture and media: those who made an impact on our lives growing up, and those we now admire for using their platforms to advocate for their community. These men have certainly proved that society’s measure of “hotness” has expanded beyond the notion that Asian men are not appealing, and should continue to expand. We reveal who our first Asian male celebrity crushes were, which actors we would want to star alongside in our theoretical biopics, and discuss how our personal definitions of “attractiveness” have changed over time.
Who are your past and current Asian celebrity crushes, and why? Let us know in the comments!

How to Retire Early and Manage Debt with YourRichBFF, Vivian Tu

How to Retire Early and Manage Debt with YourRichBFF, Vivian Tu

“Everybody knows that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, but why can’t someone teach me how to do my taxes correctly?”
We’ve all wished at some point in life that personal finance was taught in schools with as much emphasis as algebra and biology. Starting your first job and learning how to save, invest, and manage your money can be difficult without the help of an expert.
Vivian Tu has made it her mission to make professional financial advice easily accessible. In 2021, she started posting videos as YourRichBFF to combat misleading information during the pandemic when many people were struggling to make ends meet. With her background on Wall Street at JP Morgan, her content helps the people who are “leftover” by the finance world - women, people of color, the LGBTQ+ community and low-income groups - who otherwise would not have access to that information. In this episode, we asked her all our burning finance questions to get her insight on what you should know before buying a home, running a business, starting a family, and more.

Navigating Grief, Intergenerational Trauma, and More with Dr. Jenny Tzu-Mei Wang (Asians for Mental Health)

“Claiming your right to exist without limits includes giving yourself permission to rest.” -@asiansformentalhealth
Conversations about mental health are never easy, but particularly for children of immigrants, children of culture, and the diaspora, navigating and prioritizing mental and emotional self-care can seem like an isolating and daunting task.
Our guest today has made it her professional mission to provide encouragement and guidance on how to overcome cultural stigmas while remaining proud of your heritage. Dr. Jenny Tzu-Mei Wang is a Taiwanese-American clinical psychologist known for her words of wisdom on Instagram @asiansformentalhealth. She is dedicated to destigmatizing conversations about mental health in the Asian community and focuses specifically on the intersections of Asian American identity, mental health, and intergenerational and racial trauma.
Grab a blanket and sit with us as we discuss identity and wellness, along with Dr. Wang’s new book, Permission to Come Home: Reclaiming Mental Health as Asian Americans.

Abortion is Healthcare - Protecting the Right to Choose in Post-Roe America

Abortion is Healthcare - Protecting the Right to Choose in Post-Roe America

On June 24, 2022 the Supreme Court voted to overrule Roe v. Wade, a landmark court case which granted federal protections for the privacy of Americans seeking to terminate a pregnancy. The legality of an abortion is now determined on a state-by-state basis, and already several states have implemented a total ban on abortion.
This issue has been weighing heavily on our hearts for the past two weeks as we wonder what a Post-Roe America looks like. Whether abortion affects you directly or not, it is important to learn and share what the Supreme Court’s ruling means for abortion rights across America, and how the consequences will ripple out across the country. What are Trigger Laws? What does this mean for fertility treatments like IVF? How can we continue to protect the Right to Choose?
“You don’t have to like abortion, but you have to respect other people’s rights, and that includes the right to safe, accessible abortion.” - @strong.ass.women

New Romance, Egg Freezing, and New Mom Life Decisions

New Romance, Egg Freezing, and New Mom Life Decisions

The end of June and the beginning of July marked the middle of the year. We often take time to practice goal setting at the beginning of a year, and actively review and reflect events, actions, and behaviors at the end of a year. But this year, we have decided to do a mid-year check-in. What did we envision going into this year? Is it shaping up as we’d hoped? What’s next? Listen in as we share about a new romance potential, thinking about fertility as a single woman, the crossroads of new motherhood and work, and much more. How about you? Comment below with your mid-year check-in.
Hosts: Melody Cheng, Janet Wang, Helen Wu

This is my favorite podcast hands down. As an Asian woman in my late 20s, I have never listened to a podcast that felt so relatable and relevant to me. I love the variety of topics from navigating intergenerational relationships with our parents and grandparents to finances a young adult and many more. I also love the girls (Helen, Mel, and Janice) who do a great job facilitating conversations among themselves and guests by asking such good questions and providing honest perspectives.

Thank you for this awesome podcast!

Haha, binge listened to many earlier episodes. I don’t write review often…. Love your content, the kindness, support and wisdom you gals spread to each other and me behind the headphone. No longer listening

I used to listen in the early days and got bored after the hosts started going full time Internet content creators. The 2020 “woke” content also pushes me away. Not everyone is pro-abortion to the extreme Leftish degree and complex topics have an incredible amount of nuance.
