Kansas protects abortion rights in the first post-Roe abortion vote

Kansas voters last night decisively rejected an anti-abortion constitutional amendment. It was the first time voters have cast ballots on the issue since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade – and last night’s vote was closely watched for what it could tell us about broader American sentiment on abortion rights.

Plus, how to fireproof a home.

And, Taiwan reacts to Pelosi’s visit.

    Kentucky's Deadly Flooding

The death toll from severe flooding in Kentucky has risen to at least 26. That includes four young siblings who were swept away from their parents in the floodwaters. Hundreds had to be evacuated by boat or helicopter and thousands are still without electricity. More rain is expected today and tomorrow. How I begin most mornings

I have a short trip to work, and so for me, this podcast is just about the right length, and for my usual sleepy state in the morning, just about the right depth. I have mixed emotions about the soundtracks that they play with the various news stories; the music does help focus your attention, but also might be a little heavy on playing to your emotions. I must admit, that when I listen to Axios, it does seem like the reporters have become old friends, and I enjoy their daily visit.

Good length & topic choice. Bad bias.

I listen ~75% of mornings for the last ~2 years.

Axios does a terrible job at giving both sides a “fair shake” at an issue and I say that as someone who has never, and likely never will vote anything other than democrat.

Sometimes it’s subtle but they will make a statement as if it’s a fact that everyone can agree upon when it is in fact only one opinion on an issue, and an opinion on which good faith people can respectfully disagree.

Overall the podcast keeps me informed and I love the length, but I think it is contributing to hyper-partisanship.

Leading Questions

Niala asks FAR too many leading questions of her guests. Either ask open-ended questions and trust your guests to provide insight to the listeners, or just tell the whole story yourself. Why does a guest need to be there if Niala asks a pointed question that ends “…, right?”
