Be in your body: the practice of sensuality with Ev'Yan Whitney The WoMed

    • Medicine

Sexuality doula, author, and podcast host Ev’Yan Whitney joins The WoMed today to discuss sensuality and how we can all be more in touch with ourselves. Before they chat, Danielle opens up about her recent struggles with feeling uncomfortable in her body in light of being back on television. A lot of what is getting her through this tough time comes from what she learned from Ev’Yan, and we hope this conversation is equally as valuable to you. As Ev’Yan explains, sensuality is not necessarily about sexuality or sexiness, but more so the practice of paying attention with your senses, and being fully awake to the feelings and emotions coming up for you. There will of course be times where you feel disconnected from your body, especially if you struggle with your mental health, but it’s important that it doesn’t become your baseline. They also discuss how the experience of simply being comfortable in your body can often be harder than the act of having sex, as we often put on a performance, or a costume, in place of being in the moment. They discuss the internalized narratives about what sexuality is supposed to look like, and how porn is unfortunately but should not be used as an educational tool. The three also discuss accepting your aging body, body neutrality, and how sensuality encompasses acknowledging the full spectrum of who you are. Ev’Yan wants to make sensuality and embodiment more accessible, and provides tips and advice for us all to hopefully get one step closer.
