Not just a “focus” thing: ADHD with Dr. Sasha Hamdani

Not just a “focus” thing: ADHD with Dr. Sasha Hamdani

Dr. Sasha Hamdani joins your hosts (including a very excited Danielle) to talk about ADHD, particularly in women. Danielle has been wanting to get an ADHD evaluation but has not yet had the opportunity, so this conversation is incredibly informative to her and WoMed community as a whole! The three discuss the fact that women are more likely to get diagnosed later in life, the hyperactive boy trope, and how ADHD looks different in women. Dr. Sasha Hamdani also talks about her personal experience with ADHD, her opinion on the overmedication debate, and the 3 ways ADHD symptoms are broken down. She discusses her book, Self-Care for People with ADHD, and the app it morphed into that will be launching soon, FocusGenie. Lastly, she offers advice to anyone struggling with ADHD in their own lives.

Ice, ice, baby: we’re freezing our eggs!

Ice, ice, baby: we’re freezing our eggs!

So much is changing for your hosts as Dani prepares for her big move to Ohio, and Jac officially starts as full-time faculty at UIC. In true nurse fashion, the two have decided to take on one more thing: egg freezing! Your hosts are working with Cofertility, a tech-enabled fertility ecosystem that is on a mission to make egg freezing and third party reproduction more human-centered and accessible. The two discuss some of their personal reasons for wanting to embark on this journey, and touch on the ethics of egg freezing, a topic they’re planning to explore more in future episodes. This is going to be an emotional ride with episodes throughout Season 6 welcoming doctors, experts, and members of the Cofertility team to walk us through it all. We can’t wait to get started and are so excited to update you along the way.

More than a grieving widower: Michael, Part 2!

More than a grieving widower: Michael, Part 2!

Welcome to Part 2 of the conversation with Michael! This week, your hosts dive into his experience with the healthcare industry, which goes beyond just the grieving widower he is labeled as. He talks about his appreciation for nurses, and how he believes they are the backbone of healthcare. He also is incredibly educated on the faults in the system, but expresses how everyone is just reacting to something they’re being forced to do; while everyone wants to villainize part of the chain, it doesn’t work that way. He also discusses his FDA approved patent (casual) which he developed with his late wife for a topical therapeutic that would offset a treatment side effect, Hand-foot syndrome. Building a lab in his basement, he ran a small clinical trial, submitted his patent in 2019, and received it just a few months ago. Reducing the suffering of others with this therapeutic, that worked for his wife, is one of the many ways she lives on. This episode truly offers a look into Michaels heart, and we are so grateful to him for having this conversation with The WoMed community.

The one where we interrogate Michael

The one where we interrogate Michael

Welcome to Season 6, kicking off with one of our most anticipated guests: Dani’s boyfriend, Michael! They talk about how Jac was the first person they spoke to after leaving the beach, how they managed to release episodes while D was filming, and Michael’s first impression of Danielle. D dives into job and apartment hunting as she prepares to make the move to Ohio, and how Michael accidentally ended up sitting in on a job interview with her (#awkward). They touch on their shared experience of grief, the backlash Michael received once the show aired, and creating boundaries in the DMs. Lastly, they share when they knew they were falling in love. If you feel like you want more of these two love birds, we’ve got you covered: stay tuned for Part 2 next week.

Plus, a very special man will be making an appearance as we ring in season 6, and his name just might be Michael Allio... Thank you all — our long-time listeners and new friends — for closing out season 5 with D and Jac. See you in 2023!
