Beyond BTown is a behind the scenes look at the people, places and stories that help make Bloomington 'Unique' ... where we sit down with notable alumni, former student-athletes, coaches past and present, as well as community dignitaries for an in-depth chat about Bloomington and its impact on them; how they got here, what it was like for them while on campus and around town and lastly, what they're up to now after they've moved on from the 812. These are anecdotes and adventures you might not know about; along with the tales you've come to know and love.
Your host hails from the West Side of Monroe County and has called Bloomington home since a return from the Windy-City, Chicago in 2004; Most of you likely know him best as DJ Unique - the first ever Gameday DJ and Audio Consultant for IU Athletics where he worked directly with the IU Men's and Women's Basketball from 2012 to 2017 and with IU Football from 2011 to 2018. Currently he hosts Wired 97 on Bloomington's B97 and he's created and hosts one of the biggest bar events Bloomington has seen in quite some time : Music Video Bingo;
Dr Galen Clavio
Our guest for the Month of September hails from Tippecanoe County and the Lafayette area... surprising when you know just how deep his Hoosier ties go.
He's an alum from the Early 2000's and was called back to Btown from the sun and sand in Miami Beach.
Upon his return, the task he tackled and what he's helped to create will last and live on for generations to come, It's pretty remarkable when put into perspective and just where he has led the Department and, in turn, where the programs have gotten to in such a short amount of time.
We've had several of his students on the show already to talk with Unique about their adventures and experiences; every one has gone out of their way to cheer him on and talk him up ... let's find out why as Unique sits down with IU's own Broadcast Doctor and the head of the IU Media School - the esteemed Dr Galen Clavio
Our guest for the month of July is a native of the Chicago-land area who made her way to Bloomington despite a strong family pull to the Windy City and the Northwestern media school.
Her career path to date has proven that to be a very wise decision...
A national award winning journalist who joined The World Wide Leader in sports (ESPN) in 2017 as the national correspondent for the NFL's Minnesota Vikings; she assumed a similar role for her hometown Chicago Bears in 2022 and is currently prepping for the 2023 season.
Sports fans see her weekly on SportsCenter, First Take & Around The Horn; She is a 2011 graduate of Indiana University and she rounds out Unique's 'holy trinity' of broadcasters from the IU Media School - we're thrilled to welcome Miss Courtney Cronin to the show
IUWBB Head Coach Teri Moren
She grew up in a 'small town' ... okay, it's not THAT small, but it's certainly applicable.
Our guest for the month of June hails from Southeastern Indiana. where she'd grow up to be an Indiana All-Star in Basketball and a 3 sport athlete for her hometown Owls.
Division 1 Basketball was the logical next step for our guest, where she'd play for the legendary Lin Dunn. After her playing days and stints on the sidelines coaching in places like Indianapolis, Atlanta, and Terre Haute - she was called to Bloomington.
While here, she's turned her program into one of the most dominant in the women's college game. Named the 2023 Associated Press' National Coach of the Year, she's gonna be in town a while longer after signing an extension through 2029. The contract makes her one of the highest paid coaches in the Country.
It's our pleasure to welcome in the Head Coach for Indiana University Women's Basketball today, Miss Teri Moren.

Hoosier fans remember the promise, the smile, that Kentucky game; they also remember the heartbreaking injuries that derailed what was sure to be an outstanding career in the Candy Stripes. On today's edition of Beyond BTown, Unique chats with 'Mo' Creek ... the highest rated recruit in that heralded 2013 IUBB recruiting class. They talk about life in the DMV, about arriving on campus and what it was like walking out at his first Hoosier Hysteria.
They also recount his escape from a war torn Ukraine. Waking up to bomb sirens and the realities of geopolitical conflicts on the world stage.
A truly eye opening account - all that and more, next on the latest episode of Beyond BTown.
Derek Elston - The Tipton Tornado
It's not often when you get an opportunity to connect 3 generations of Indiana University Basketball, but our guest today checks all the boxes.
Affectionately known as 'The Tipton Tornado', Derek Elston originally committed to play basketball in Bloomington for Head Coach Kelvin Sampson; then recommitted to the Hoosiers to play for Tom Crean. After his playing career, he winds up coming home to work on the staff for Archie Miller.
We dive deep into all that, as well as the recruiting process; how North Carolina played SUCH a role in his upbringing; the relationships and inner workings of that incredible group of guys who brought IUBB back from the brink.
Life, love, basketball, marriage and more with Derek Elston on this episode of Beyond BTown.
