Beyond the Binaries: Learning to love ourselves beyond the Gender Constructs of Masculine & Feminine The Bruised Ego Podcast

    • Society & Culture

Hey Hey Yall! Long delayed but here! This week we bring you a conversation with our good friend Travis Demello. He is an artist, graphic designer, nature photographer and seer of many worlds. An alchemist of sorts and a beautiful friend to us both. Take a look at his Instagram and you'll know what we mean. In this conversation with Travis, we discuss the oppressive and explorative nuances of living through our masculine and feminine energies. Call it what you may, yin and yang, Shiva or Shakti; these dualities tend to bind us against our wills and shape our behavior to confine us to energies that may stifle or propel us towards our authentic selves. We share stories and talk life regarding the many ways in which these, often constricting gender constructs, whether in their creativity or in their oppressiveness, in their heteronormative-driven and binary ways (which obviously seeks to define us rather than allow us to), have shaped each of our lives. We scour our lives and uncover moments that have been defining. Continuously observing ourselves as we engage our defenses and enliven our possibilties to guide us as we create some freedom to truly live as we we want.

This conversation is Sunday brunch with the homies; some beauitful non-linear listening and yet divulges the vulnerabilities and insecurities that we've have felt around living as ourselves when others have tried to create us in ways that couldn't completely honor who we are. And for real though, we obviously forgot we were even recording at times, but f*ck it, we are living through these stories daily looking for the freedom we all want to have.

Take a listen and as always thank you for your support. We are grateful to Langston Black, Passion Hi-fi for ya free downloads, and Kile Atwater of Trakjoy for all our musical vibes. To see more of the magic that is Travis Demello go get lost on his website at http://www.travisdemello.com
