S01E07 - Black Father Hood & The NFL

S01E07 - Black Father Hood & The NFL

Episode 7 discusses the mindset behind young black players who may or may not have grown up with a black father, but may find comfort (or anxiety) in being surrounded by non black-  male authority in sports. In this particular instance the NFL. Do these players end up seeing the coaches and other male staff as father figures? What about the playes that have strong bonds with their fathers and families in general? Do they get looked at as outsiders? Are the inclined to lead? Are they allowed to lead?

There are so many questions and maybe you have the answers, but the discussion begins here!

S01E05 - Black Father Hood and Prison

S01E05 - Black Father Hood and Prison

Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love, is a major hub for crime on the east coast. At times, one of the most dangerous places to live in America. High incarceration rates, high non-violent crime, and worst of all high homicide rates. This is also one of the blackest cities in America. I'm sure the history of the treatment of black livelihood in this country and cities like this contributed to much of this criminal environment. The destruction of black fathers, drug dependency from birth, and the aforementioned incarceration rates, the bombing of neighborhoods, etc. The treatment of drugs as a criminal offense has taken so many of us off the streets. Drugs leading to armed robberies and homicides. Too many correlations to count.
Many rappers I listened to growing up with always boasted that Philadelphia has "more bodies than days". I identified with this and thought it was cool to promote these statistics. Because where I grew up, the more dangerous your area, the more clout you had. Similar to West Coast gang culture. Now I find it pretty cool to promote the  other side of the game, which prompted me to start something like the Black Father Hood.
On this next episode, I am discussing how black father hood and prisons have been tied together to almost be synonymous. I'll be discussing the statistics, facts, and my POV. Tune in!
