Episode 76: Investing Out of State as a Single Immigrant Mom Black Real Estate Dialogue

This episode with Stephanie Assi was inspiring! Stephanie moved to the United States from the Ivory Coast on her own at 18 years old. Before she started college, she had to take one year of English classes to improve her proficiency.
The turning point for her came during college when she was working as a server and overheard guests having conversations about real estate and business. When she graduated, she saved up and purchased a duplex that she used as student housing. She soon discovered that student housing wasn't the strategy for her.
She sold the house 3 years later and used the proceeds to buy a single family property in Maryland. She converted the basement to a legal unit, rented it out and also rented out the other bedrooms. By doing this, she was able to live for free.
Eventually she started investing out of state in Columbus, Ohio and Memphis Tennessee which are two places she's never actually visited. Currently she has 11 doors with plans to add more. Stephanie will be a guest speaker in July for the B.R.E.D Real Estate Investing Community. In this episode we discuss the importance of research, investing out of state, running your own race and more.
