This week’s interview is with Rod Watson, a real estate agent who boasts over $200 million in sales volume throughout his career.
A late-night infomercial ignited Rod’s interest in real estate over two decades ago. Not long after getting his license, he navigated the tumultuous 2008 financial crisis. From there he eventually built his company, LA VIP Agent, that has set him apart in the real estate space.
Rod shares how his experience selling luxury cars laid the foundation for building relationships with clients, starting over in the Southern California real estate market, and his journey to becoming a real estate advisor for athletes and entertainers.
Highlights
1) It’s always worth it to do what’s best for a client—to be their trusted resource or authority—and nurture the relationship rather than to chase a quick dollar. If you operate solely to get the sale, your business will be short-lived.
2) Sales is all about asking the right questions in order to get clear on your customer’s needs and expectations, and in turn be able to advise them through the process of getting what they desire. You can never persuade someone to do something they’re not ready to do.
3) Getting the Black dollar to circulate more widely in the real estate market can only happen if we get intentional about working with our own. Representation starts when you seek out professionals that look like you in the space.
