A Discussion About Manhood with Sirano Hunt, Demond Lightbourne and Andy Missick

A Discussion About Manhood with Sirano Hunt, Demond Lightbourne and Andy Missick

Matt  Zerker said that all modern men have these three characteristics: 1)  They are open about their struggles, 2) they are comfortable with  emotional intimacy, and, 3) they take care of themselves. All three of  my guest exudes these qualities. On today’s show, we examined my first  book “It’s Not a Man’s World” and discussed some of the chapters (i.e.  Surrender, Purpose, Success is self-defined). A group of men being open  about their challenges and life experiences is a rare occurrence. This  episode was one of the most powerful discussions I have been a part of.  K

Join  me this Wednesday as I sit down with Andy Misick, Demond Lightbourne  and Sirano Hunt as we dive into my book “It’s Not a Man’s World” and  have a open discussion about manhood.

Parenting a child on the Autism Spectrum with Almando Rigby

Parenting a child on the Autism Spectrum with Almando Rigby

The Hope  Foundation for Autism Awareness (TCI) Inc. began in April of 2013 to  provide awareness to the community, support to parents and teachers and  HOPE to all of the families and children affected by autism in the Turks and Caicos Islands.  The foundation is a Non-Profit Organization that provides free workshops  three times a year to parents, teachers and to the community with over  20 families that have children affected by Autism. CD  researchers reported that autism rates in the United States increased  from 1 in 150 children in 2000 to 1 in 54 in 2016, and the rate now  stands at 1 in 44 children. Some argue that autism's prevalence is  rising because of environmental causes like vaccines.

On this episode Almando Rigby discussed his activism for Autism and also his experience parenting his 13 year old son Isreal who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder 10 years ago. Mr. Rigby is a family guy who loves his community dearly. It was a pleasure learning about his experiences in raising awareness about Autism here in the  Turks and Caicos Islands.

Why Social Entrepreneurship is the way forward with Gabriel Saunders

Why Social Entrepreneurship is the way forward with Gabriel Saunders

Gabriel Saunders, the son of Deputy Premier Hon. Erwin Jay Saunders, Founder of Decomp, and Social Entrepreneur shared on the season finale of Bourne to Lead  that pursuing social entrepreneurship is the way forward to creating  more affluence for Turks and Caicos Islanders. Many are saying "we are Not living our best life" in the Turks and Caicos Islands and Gabriel  believes a solution to this is creating business incubators for aspiring entrepreneurs to develop their business ideas and grow them into lucrative globally recognized companies.

Gabriel also shared his journey with Decomp and the company being a better solution to plastic waste pollution. Decomp has received some international awards since its founding and recently was selected as the winner of the Commission for Environmental  Cooperation's Youth Innovation Challenge, representing Canada. The company was awarded $15,000 in non-dilutive seed funding. During the interview, Mr. Saunders advocated for the expansion of the MSME program as it is needed for locals to nurture their creative ideas.

Mr. Saunders also shared his views on Climate Change, and the advice Honorable Norman Saunders gave him as a child.

How to Deliver Excellent Customer Service with Demond Lightbourne

Demond Lightbourne knew nothing about the hospitality industry when he graduated high school but your calling does not require you to have it all figured out. Demond's open and empathic personality allowed him to connect instantly to guests in the hotel industry and seeing them happy ignited his passion for service. Demond has worked at most levels in the hotel industry from line staff to middle management. In 2017, he became the first individual in the Caribbean to join the elite concierge society called "The Golden Keys" based in the United Kingdom.

Having 10+ years of customer service experience, Demond is now the owner of a concierge company called Island Buzz Concierge. Speaking with Mr. Lightbourne, I couldn't help but feel like this is the beginning of his journey. A true ambassador of the Turks and Caicos Islands hospitality industry, Demond is poised for greatness as an Entrepreneur.  Listen to this insightful discussion we had on Bourne to Lead today about his career and goals.

Why I Stepped Away from the Spotlight with Greg Been

Why I Stepped Away from the Spotlight with Greg Been

I could not have chosen a better guest for this week’s show. Greg poured his heart over the airwaves so much so that it has prompted me to do some introspection of my own. Greg Been, formerly known as Techno Sounds talked about his experience being the most requested DJ of his era and shared some tips other up-and-coming DJs could use to get some exposure. When asked about his biggest failure during his DJing career he responded "My greatest failure, was my success ".

Mr. Been shared that his success ruined his relationship with his family which led to him seeking therapeutic intervention in the end. We rarely see men expose themselves the way Mr. Been did today; it was a powerful experience. No longer a DJ, Mr. Been serves his church and community, mentoring at-risk males amongst other  ventures. Mr. Been ended the show by saying that we should make “God our centerpiece” to avoid some of the mistakes he made.

Addressing Mental Health in Afro-Communities with Tinashe Masango

Addressing Mental Health in Afro-Communities with Tinashe Masango

Hon. Marcus Garvey said “We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery because whilst others might free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind. Mind is your only ruler, sovereign. The man who is not able to develop and use his mind is bound to be the slave of the other man who uses his mind.”

On this episode, I was grace with the presence of the Pan-Africanist and Wellbeing & Mental Health Practitioner, Tinashe Masango, who spoke about the  importance of addressing mental illness in Afro-Communities. In this  discussion we touched on the origins of our traumas, the importance of  priotizing mental health on the road to economic prosperity amongst  other pressing topics surrounding mental health. You will need you  notepad for this one; Mr. Masango shared a lot of helpful information during the discussion.
