Building Culture Right the First Time
Melissa Porterfield, Silk Mountain

– The Sharkpreneur podcast with Seth Greene Episode 893 Melissa Porterfield
Melissa Porterfield has been a culture design and transformation practitioner for over 20 years. She began her career as an educator and school administrator. She has carried her love of teaching into the Learning and Development space with a strong focus on Leadership Development. Melissa transitioned into corporate HR, primarily in the tech industry, for 20 years before launching Silk Mountain. She makes it simple for startup CEOs and small business owners to define and design their ideal cultures so that they can attract, engage, and retain top talent.

Melissa holds a BS in Education from Texas Tech University and an MEd in Educational Leadership, which ignited her passion for developing leaders. She is a certified coach with the International Coaching Community (ICC), has a certification in Human Synergistics (a culture assessment for culture transformation), the MBTI, and her SPHR and SHRM SCP.

Foundational in her approach is the belief that everybody wins when the culture doesn’t suck. She works collaboratively with leadership (and existing employees) to design a company’s ideal culture or positively transform an existing company culture that does not serve the company’s needs. In addition, she helps leaders weave culture into every aspect of their businesses so they can hire the right people, increase performance, employee engagement, innovation, collaboration, trust, and revenue while reducing voluntary turnover.
Melissa is a speaker and a contributing author of three bestselling anthologies (so far!). She has presented for national and regional conferences, professional organizations, and the Small Business Administration. Her topics include organizational culture, unconscious bias, executive presence, and mindset.

She is happiest when sharing her passion for improving work environments and has received many positive testimonials.
