Resolving Everyday Conflict - When do you say hard things?
When do you tell others the truth even when it hurts? When do you overlook an offence and just move on? What do you do when things can’t get resolved? This week Pastor Steve will tackle these questions as we look at the book of Galatians. Paul reminds us that through the means of relationship, we can tell each other hard things so we don’t remain stuck or entangled in broken patterns. There is a cost to saying what needs to be said to bring about correction. There is also a cost to not saying anything at all. Paul reminds us that our reproof should be wrapped in gentleness to help bring about restoration. When Godly correction is given, it provides an opportunity for us to become more like Christ. As we work though everyday conflict we can grow and find victory.
Resolving Everyday Conflict - What is your role?
Do you assume the best of others? Or are you concerned with the dust in someone else’s eye while you are unwilling to see the log in your own? To see your own aversions? Your own brokenness?
This week, Pastor Steve is going to be looking at the Sermon on the Mount and how to overcome our natural tendency to judge others. Jesus tells us to examine our own hearts before discerning what to do. As we do so, we may need to take responsibility for our own contributions to the mess and hurt we have caused others. We do this by asking God to reveal our true motives and desires. We do this by avoiding prejudgement or prejudice or assuming the worst.
In everyday conflict, there is an opportunity to become more like Christ. When we go to Jesus and take responsibility, He will restore our vision once the log in our eye is gone. Only then is our vision to be directed to the speck in the eye of the fellow believer.
Resolving Everyday Conflict - Pride Vs Humility
Speaker: Steve Edelman
What comes to mind when you think about conflict? How do we respond? Our natural tendency is to avoid, hide or pretend that it didn’t happen. Or we react in anger because things didn’t go the way we hoped for. We may even judge the other person without knowing all the facts.
Why is conflict so hard for us? In the book of James, he answers this question. If we want to grow as followers of Christ and as a church, we need to embrace the little moments of friction. James tells us that we need to humble ourselves in conflict or our pride gets in the way. When this happens, we give Satan a foothold in our life.
This week pastor Steve is going to be looking how disagreements are opportunities to become more like Christ. The bigger the conflict. The bigger the opportunity for growth and victory
