S3E9 Woke Racism: Have Progressives Created a New Social Religion?

#43. In this episode, Abdullah and Andres review and discuss the book Woke Racism: How A New Religion Has Betrayed Black America by Columbia professor and author John McWhorter. Have progressives abandoned actual racial progress and improving the lives of Black people in favor of virtue-signaling and smoking out racists? Do we have a new “cannon” of approved books on the subject of racism that ensures that people only hold to one true opinion on the subject? The Souljah’s discuss this and more in this episode.

    S3E8 Black Fragility

    S3E8 Black Fragility

#42. In this episode, Abdullah and Andres discuss the idea of Black Fragility. Can Black people be fragile? Do we blame everything on so-called “white people” and avoid responsibility? Do we exhibit signs of distress when the topic of race comes up in a way that makes us feel uncomfortable? Can Black folks be racist? We go there! This is a long episode, but a good one, as Abdullah and Andres continue their own journey to greater authenticity.

Iowa girl loves this podcast.

I so enjoy this podcast. Listening is like being in the same room with friends as Abdul, Justine, and Andres explore deep, essential topics of our time, and good music. I find it fascinating and thought provoking how these three transplanted-to-Iowa black individuals from disparate parts of the world experience my home state. I can listen a full hour and still want to hear more.

Listening to learn and live it

If you want to listen and learn and be provoked to action this is it. I have learned over the last 5 plus years that once you learn the truth it’s hard to look away. Once you learn the truth and you believe it your actions change. Once your actions change your family and friends notice. Once this happens you can make a difference and things can change. It is great to hear truth in a calm and thought out manner like this. I have stopped watching the news. I have stopped letting the media sway my mind. I hope that anyone looking for a new Lens to learn through and see through can open their heart and mind to the words of this podcast. Thank you for the Hope that you have from within.

White Female Listener

I was totally just called out by this Podcast, and I couldn’t appreciate it more. This group does a phenomenal job of dissecting heavy information and making their discussions feel natural. It really hit me in the face when one of the hosts said, “People like seeing POC in the Church, but they don’t like hearing POCs’ voices.” I think that applies to multiple spaces— religious, educational, political... you name it.

I just got done listening to “Nice White Parents,” and the audiobook for “Be the Bridge”— those resources along with “Christian Souljah” podcast, really help me better understand my relationship with the Black community and my faith. I struggle a lot with the idea of— How do I purposefully (and sometimes uncomfortably) put myself in a social setting I am not very familiar with and surround myself with Black culture, while not “stealing” or “intruding” in that culture’s space? How do I learn to sit back and listen, while also taking action and not just being that progressive podcasting white woman?

This podcast WILL provide you with more instructive answers to those questions. It will also leave you asking bigger and better questions to yourself about racism.

Stay informed. Grow in passion. Keep questioning. And most importantly, stick out the tough conversations and remain a Souljah.

(Also— shoutout to Abdullah, his wife, Jean, and their kids for continuing to push their white relatives to be better people and better family. It’s one thing to educate an audience on Apple Podcast— it’s a whole new ballgame to have these conversations [sometimes face-to-face] with family, lol.)
