How the Phanatic Became a Philly (and Baseball) Icon

While the Phillies are number one in the league right now, is the Phanatic the best mascot in baseball? And how did a giant, flightless bird from the Galápagos wind up representing us anyway? We’re revisiting a conversation host Trenae Nuri had last year with AJ Mass, editor and writer at ESPN and author of “Yes, It’s Hot in Here,” about his experience as a mascot for the New York Mets and how the Phanatic became the model for future mascots to follow.

AlanaBog ,

They ask great questions. I’m a new fan.

So happy to have this podcast. Informative, thoughtful conversations here.

Gaaj23 ,

Informative, focused, and fun.

You know what you’re getting from each episode based on the title. I like it because it allows me to filter through episodes so I can focus on issues important to me.

I think Philly Cast has done a spectacular job of selecting a host. Trenae Nuri, your flexibility and relatability as a host is wonderful. I really appreciate the questions you ask as a way to get to the heart of: “what is this and why do I care” - from everything to the overspending by the Housing Authority to the best pizza’s in Philly.

Cece MCF ,

Great podcast for local news

It’s a great podcast to listen to during my commute and I always seem to learn something new about what is going on around the city. The host is great.
