Vaccines and Children
Do you have questions or concerns on whether to vaccinate your child? Dr. Alexis Orama explains the importance of vaccines and shares other insights that may help parents make an informed decision for their child.
Dr. Alexis Marí Orama is a board-certified pediatrician who was born and raised in New York City. Dr. Orama’s path to medical school was not a traditional one. She attended a small, private college in a suburb of the city where she earned her bachelors degree, but felt ill-prepared to apply for medical school directly after completing her undergraduate education. She spent a few years working as a medical assistant in an OB-GYN clinic, which helped confirm her desire to pursue a career in medicine. From there, she went on to enter a post-baccalaureate program at Southern Illinois University to bridge the gap between college and medical school. She was later accepted into the SIU School of Medicine. While in medical school, she felt compelled to specialize in pediatrics. Dr. Orama completed her pediatric residency training in Springfield, Illinois. During the latter part of medical school, she met the love of her life, who she married in her first year of pediatric residency. Now she and her husband, Paul, have 3 wonderful children and are currently living in central Illinois, about 2 hours outside of Chicago, where she is a full-time outpatient pediatrician at a multi-specialty group practice.
