    Welcome to Cornwall National Landscape

    Welcome to Cornwall National Landscape

Welcome to Season 2 of the Cornwall National Landscape podcast!

From Wednesday 22 November, all AONBs became known as National Landscapes. This strong and consistent branding is designed to ‘level-up’ and reflect the importance of these protected landscapes alongside the UK’s National Parks. Cornwall National Landscape is the new name for the protected landscape in Cornwall, endorsed by Natural England.

We are still in law a designated area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). Cornwall National Landscape is 12 separate sections making up one third of Cornwall and our primary purpose remains to conserve and enhance Natural Beauty.

In this episode we are delighted to speak to not one, but two, colleagues talking all things nature recovery in Cornwall.

Dougie Handford is the Senior Environment Officer co-leading the Local Nature Recovery Strategy alongside a great team in Cornwall Council. He leads on this with his colleague Beth Roberts.

She is a member of our Cornwall AONB Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) Panel. She has a background in Agricultural Economics and working in the Agri-food sector. She farms in a family partnership in North Cornwall and Section 02 of Cornwall AONB.

We talk about the state of nature in Cornwall, in the protected landscape and beyond, farming for and with nature and the Local Nature Recovery Strategy which Dougie and the team are currently drafting.

There is a great opportunity, which Clare and Dougie discuss in the podcast, to get involved and have your say about nature recovery and the strategy.

It's a survey to fill in, please do take the time before it closes on 22 November 2023.
