The Counterflow Podcast is a weekly show featuring discussions and interviews with people who are outside of and critical toward mainstream liberal and conservative politics. Counterflow challenges the conventional narratives sold to us as truth. The show features thinkers from all backgrounds, who do not fit into the narrow framework of fashionable opinion. The show addresses cultural, spiritual and lifestyle issues as well as philosophy and geo-politics. Host Buck Johnson (formerly of the Death To Tyrants Podcast) is a musician, firefighter and Orthodox Christian and has always had an interest and drive to go one way while everyone else runs the other direction.

Ep. 253: Myths of the Manosphere, with Julie and Amy Mastrine
This week, Julie Mastrine is back on the show, and she has her twin sister, Amy, with her. They are here to discuss the toxic pendulum swing that some men have taken away from the evils of the progressive feminist left and right into the evils of toxic fake masculinity. In Orthodoxy, we are taught to not fall into the trap of the Devil's Dialectic where we have to choose one evil or the other. They're both demonic, and that's exactly how it's planned. We are to follow the Royal Path rather than falling to the left or right (spiritually), yet many of us fall. This is a discussion all about that and the toxic sides of the man v. woman dialectic that "society" has offered us to choose from. We offered a more nuanced and loving take on the way men and women can view one another. Ep. 252: Transhumanism and the Spirit of Our Age, with Father Peter Heers
My guest this week is Fr. Peter Heers. Fr. Peter is the founder and current head of Uncut Mountain Press, the founder and head of The Orthodox Ethos. He put together a wonderful video presentation called "Transhumanism: An Orthodox Christian Analysis", in which he does a deep dive into the topic of transhumanism. In this episode we discuss the topic from a historical perspective as well as an Orthodox perspective. Ep. 251: We Fight Because of Our Similarities, with David Gornoski
My guest this week, in what is one of my favorite interviews to date, is David Gornoski. David is the host of the radio show, A Neighbor's Choice, a show that looks at politics, science, and culture through the lens of Jesus' personhood revolution. On his radio show and also on his online-exclusive podcast and film series, THINGS HIDDEN, David has interviewed personalities like Ron Paul, Jordan Peterson, and Slavoj Žižek. David has also written multiple essays and columns promoting Jesus' nonviolent ethos and personhood revolution for publications such as the DailyCaller, Townhall, American Conservative, and FEE. In this episode, David breaks down Rene Girard's Mimetic Theory, and as this episode plays out, he intertwines it through various subjects in a way that ties everything we discuss together. Christianity, politics, anthropology, societal relations... it's all here, and it's a wonderful discussion. Ep. 250: Our Coming Digital Prison, with Aman Jabbi
My guest this week brings a frightening yet important topic to the table. Aman Jabbi is the foremost expert when it comes to explaining the digital existence that we will likely experience very soon. Facial recognition, smart cities, artificial intelligence, geo-fencing, central bank digital currency, and total control over our existence. While this all sounds fairly ominous, we also get into a discussion about how it can be avoided and what that even looks like. Ep. 249: Worldviews, Aesthetics, and the Sweatpants Culture, with Jimbob
This week, my format is a little bit different. I was a guest on a livestream over on Jimbob's great YouTube channel (Made by Jimbob), and this episode is from that. I wanted him on my show, and he wanted me on his, so here we are. In this discussion, we get into his journey into Orthodoxy, his political awakenings, and his appreciation for beauty and aesthetics, apart from the sweatpant culture that surrounds us. Ep. 248: Psychedelics and the Spiritual Realm, with David Patrick Harry
My guest this week is returning for a second appearance. He is the wonderful content creator over at the Church of the Eternal Logos, David Patrick Harry. David is a Ph.D. student at the Graduate Theological Union, where his research focuses on New Religious Movements and trends within America. In addition to that, he does research into the occult, the New Age, and psychedelic spirituality, and David is also a Christian apologist from the Eastern Orthodox tradition. In this episode, we discuss mushrooms, DMT, Ayahuasca, and other psychedelics and what spiritual effects they can have on one who partakes. Is there an actual spiritual element to psychedelics? Is it necessarily positive or negative? We discuss how the spiritual experience happens and what exactly that means. We also discuss the paradigm of the psychedelic relative to the paradigm of the Orthodox Christian. He’s capturing my heart
I love his voice, number 1. It starts there, then comes his clarity. It rings like a bell. Then comes his humility. It leads me toward something that I dare call grace. I am so grateful. Thank you Buck Johnson <3
“Orthodoxy with Buck Johnson”
You can clearly tell Buck is a recent convert based upon his zealous advocacy of his faith. That is not a bad thing per se. I’m more glad than anyone that Buck has come back to Christ but his show has become less about politics and more about his specific religious denomination. As of this review his last four guests in a row have been related to the Orthodox denomination. Thus, his show which was about giving voice to alternative political perspectives has become about giving voice to one religious perspective. I’ll listen again once there’s a guest that has nothing to do with the orthodox faith.
One of the best in the game
I don’t know how I failed to leave a review until now, because Counterflow has become one of my “must-listen” podcasts over the last couple years. Buck is one of the best, most prepared and meticulous interviews you will find out there, and his growth since moving beyond his libertarian phase has truly been a wonderful think to watch.
If you realize that the battle at hand is a spiritual one, be sure to listen to Counterflow to get thicken that coat of armor for what’s to come.
