Interview with Dr. Dan Siegel, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, UCLA. Founder, Mindsight Institute. Co-director, Mindful Awareness Research Center, UCLA. Author, Mindsight and Brainstorm. Co-author, The Whole-Brain Child. Dr. Siegel talks about his new book Aware: The Science and Practice of Presence (August 2018) which documents the effects of practicing the 'wheel of awareness' guided meditation. These include a greater sense of well-being, strengthened immune functions, reduced inflammation, stronger chromosomes which slows down aging, improved cardiovascular functions and greater brain integration resulting in clearer thinking. We are restored to a sense of wholeness and connection, and transcend the primal impulse toward in-group and out-group thought. Dr Siegel's gift is the ability to translate scientific studies into accessible, practical information that we can use.
