The Great Galveston Hurricane - September 8, 1900
Join Jenny, the Disaster Queen, as she takes a deep dive into a 15-foot storm surge that devastated turn-of-the-century Galveston, Texas. This posh boomtown took a huge hit and never saw it coming, even though one man probably should have. The Galveston hurricane is still the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States 123 years later and saw over 1/6 of the city's population go to their graves. We will talk about the how, the why, and what was learned and put in place to protect Galveston from hurricanes forever.

Great info and well presented
I am the same age as Jenny and so I remember all of these things as well. I have learned some new details and find her coverage well informed and well presented. I enjoy the light moments of sarcasm and the nonpartisan presentation of facts. Jenny presents heavy stories in a balanced and empathetic fashion. I’m a podcast junkie and am happy to add this one to my list!
Love it!
The tales of moments we all know, but with personal stories that bring them home to the listener. This podcast is a fascinating take on momentous events in human history.
Fascinating! Great for homeschoolers!
History can be really dry, but podcasts like this one that take a deep dive into major disasters are great for answering the questions I didn’t know I had. Jenny handles the difficulty without being morbid, while still showing the intensity of each disaster. I can’t wait for more!
