Blue Voodoo episode 4 Chico Lindvall

Blue Voodoo episode 4 Chico Lindvall

THIS EPISODE WAS DONE IN SWEDISH “Det är en enda pågående process, hela skiten… ” ”Trummorna låter som om de vore inspelade på botten av en swimmingpool…” ”Nutidens musiker spelar för att pappa ska bli glad. Jag spelade för att min pappa inte    skulle bli glad.” ”Mindre pretto, mera bag…” Anders Chico Lindvall is a legendary swedish guitar player. He was born and bred in the very south of Sweden, in the town Malmö. He saw the light of day December 20th 1953 and has been on the music scene since the early seventies. Among others, he has played with Lotus, Mikael Wiehe, Kabaréorkestern, Tolvan Big Band and Danish Radio Big Band. He has participated on several studio albums as well as been on tour with giants as Michael Brecker, Joe Henderson, Dave Liebman, Toots Thielemans, David Sanborn and Van Morrison.  His guitar style is very expressive and explosive. The music he did with Lotus as well as the music on his two solos albums his personal qualities are ver obvious. You hear that it´s a Chico song the way the rhythm and melody is crafted. There are quiet often odd time signatures and busy thematic lines that contains chromatic ideas as well as melodic ideas, utilization of motifs as well as interesting rhythmic grouping of notes. His guitar solos are one of a kind. Tone, energy and part of the phrasing comes directly from the blues. Add to that a deep knowledge in the language of jazz, growing up during the hippie era and then add a restless forward driving force and you get Chico.  In 2018, "Chico" was awarded with Jazz i Malmö's Guldnål for "sensual taste, technical brilliance and uncompromising attitude". In connection with the award ceremony, "Chico" also released his first solo album "Debut". This interview was done before the album Basement Incident had been released. It is now available on streaming platforms and on CD.  A few titles from Chico Lindvalls discography 1974 - 1976 - 2019 - 2022 - Albums of inspiration that Chico mentions in the interview: John Mayall´s Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (The Beno Album) John Mayall´s Bluesbreakers  -  Crusade’ John Mayall´s Bluesbreakers  – The Diary Of A Band vol. 1 and vol. 2 John Mayall´s Bluesbreakers  – Bare Wires Paul Butterfield Blues Band – East West Allman Brothers Band Chicago – Transit Authority Chicago II Chicago III
