Study Hall: 10 U.S. States Where You Can Afford a Home on a $75K Income

Study Hall: 10 U.S. States Where You Can Afford a Home on a $75K Income

Welcome back to Market Mondays, your weekly dose of real estate insights and financial literacy! In this highlight from our latest clip, hosts Ian Dunlap and Rashad Bilal reveal and discuss a hot topic that affects many Americans today: affordability in the housing market.

If you're earning less than $75,000 a year, and thinking it's impossible to own a home—you might want to reconsider. The duo dives into a list of ten states where home ownership is still within reach for those earning under the 75K threshold. From Mississippi's $63,000 affordability marker to Louisiana's $67,000 benchmark, they cover the full spectrum.

Beyond just listing these affordable states, Ian and Rashad critically examine what this means for the average American, including the potential drawbacks and implications of living in these areas. They explore the state economies, political climates, and opportunities for upward mobility.

As they dig deeper, Ian proposes innovative ideas for leveraging the benefits of these states, such as running online businesses remotely to create financial arbitrage opportunities. Targeting the heart of entrepreneurial spirit, they emphasize the pressing need to adapt and seek out consistent revenue streams, no matter where you reside.

Later in the conversation, the question of investing in these states is raised. Ian and Rashad share their personal views on whether states like Michigan or Indiana have investment potential. They also touch on the future of bigger markets like Los Angeles and New York, offering their bullish or bearish sentiments in light of recent economic shifts and trends.

Is renting a better option for those in the sub-75K income range? Are some states a wiser investment choice than others? What strategies can you employ to maximize your financial possibilities? Join Ian and Rashad as they tackle these pressing questions, always keeping it real with their expert insights and actionable advice.

Remember to share your thoughts in the comments below! Are you considering a move or investment in any of these states? Do you agree or disagree with the points discussed?

Is Space Exploration Worth the Cost?

Is Space Exploration Worth the Cost?

Join us on another enlightening clip of Earn Your Leisure, where we engage in a thought-provoking discussion about the true value of space exploration. In this clip, #EYL hosts Rashad Bilal, Troy Millings, and guest Aisha Bowe, a former NASA STEM advocate, unravel the mysteries behind the gigantic investments in space programs and how they benefit life on Earth.

The conversation kicks off with Rashad questioning the purpose behind America's historical moon landing and what has been achieved since then. Aisha enlightens us with how space research contributes to medical breakthroughs, such as fighting diseases and developing new treatments that are effective both in space and on Earth.

We delve into the technological advances spawned by space research, with direct applications that revolutionize our daily lives – from satellite TV to GPS navigation. The panel discusses how investments in space technology are long-term savings in disguise, aiming to make costly innovations more affordable over time and potentially rid humanity of afflictions like cancer.

Join our hosts as they explore the possibilities brought by private sector involvement in space exploration, which has historically been the realm of governmental entities. Aisha encourages a future where diversity leads the next era of space entrepreneurs, and we examine whether Mars is the next frontier for human space travel.

As we touch on the challenge of space debris, Aisha offers her perspective on opportunities for startups in creating novel solutions for orbital cleanup – a growing segment in the space industry with urgent needs.

Our conversation takes a playful turn towards addressing conspiracy theories – from flat Earthers to questioning the existence of extraterrestrial life. Aisha addresses these with a mix of humor and logic, explaining how everyday dependencies on satellite technology defy flat Earth claims and how, from a mathematical standpoint, the probability of alien life cannot be dismissed.

So, are we alone in the universe? What’s next in the race to Mars? And how do advancements in space exploration transcend beyond our earthly confines? For all this and more, tune in to this riveting episode of Earn Your Leisure.

6:20 - Closing Thoughts: Deciding on Timken Company

In this week’s episode of Market Mondays, Troy Millings and Ian Dunlap discuss a selection of companies, weighing in on whether they are stocks to keep or to let go of right now.

McCardo Libre ($MELI), known as the Amazon of South America, impresses Ian, especially if it dips below $1425. He acknowledges its strong performance, despite wanting to see how it adjusts to the current market.

Carnival Cruise Line ($CCL), despite a year of ups and downs, is seen as a "good trade, bad investment" by Ian. He suggests a cautious approach with a potential trade if it falls back to $12 or around $9.

For The Hershey Company ($HSY), despite a tough year and rising cocoa costs, Ian expresses long-term interest, setting his ideal buying price at $132 but considering $165 to $171 acceptable for investment.

General Electric ($GE) sparks a change of heart for Ian, praising its leadership and pricing increase. Yet, the boom and bust cycles keep him from a long-term commitment, though he's open to a swing trade around $71 to $75.

UPS ($UPS) finds itself in a predicament with Amazon encroaching on its territory. Ian suggests looking out for a price drop to $128 or $110 before taking it for a "date," with a clear stance towards a cautious approach.

Finally, the Timken Company ($TKR) is described as an unexpectedly attractive stock by Ian. With its price appreciation, he would take it on a date at the right price point, ideally at $72 or loving it at $50.

Throughout the show, the chemistry between Troy and Ian makes for an entertaining yet insightful analysis as they dissect each company’s potential, with Ian providing specific price points that he believes would make for a good trade or investment.
