The Hollisters, a bright, spirited, wholesome family, are compelled to move into the country. After many efforts to secure a home, Shirley, eldest of the Hollisters, contrives a way out by renting a magnificent old stone barn at a ridiculously low price, transforming it into a house. The owner of the barn is not an ordinary landlord, as you will see, for he is a young man with fine ideals, and he is not content with establishing Shirley and her family in the quaintly beautiful old place, but makes the world a much happier place to live in for all of them. Excellent book
I love all of Grace Livingston Hill's books. Been reading them since I was a young girl. Collected all 100+ books over the years, but gave them away during a move. I was delighted to find some of them on audio. Really enjoyed it & plan to get all they offer.
Beautiful story! Worth every minute.
Truly wonderful story with a couple of unexpected twists.
My daughter (15yrs) an I enjoyed it together. The reader does a great job with character voices. I am not one who claps at the end of a movie (who would be their to receive our praise?) but we enjoyed this reading and book so much that we both clapped after the last chapter, we were thrilled.
Nice story for all ages
I love Librivox. I have heard so many stories that I wouldn't otherwise know about. I stumbled upon this one and decided to listen. I had not heard of it before. It is a charming story about a poor family who needs to find a place to live. The eldest daughter, who works as a stenographer, stumbles upon an abandoned barn that is able to be transformed into a lovely home. There is a modest romance. Faith in God and positive morals are exhibited. The reader does a fine job. She provides just the right intonation and animation to keep the listener's attention. Her east coast accent was a bit distracting at first but about half way through I realized that it no longer bothered me. I recommend this story for all ages.
