Ep 05 - Cristabel Gekas on how her failure at clerkships led her to becoming the Queen of tech start ups Rose Tinted Law The Podcast

    • Careers

Cristabel Gekas is a Melbourne Uni JD graduate and People and Operations Manager at XY Sense, a tech start up using smart sensors and AI powered analytics to create workplaces that people love.

I met Crista when she was a law student whose sights were firmly set on a top-tier legal career. She was working extremely hard to tick all the boxes to get there – She was leading The Legal Forecast, para-legal and interning, networking up a storm and studying extremely hard. However, things did not go according to her carefully thought-out plan.

Crista’s interest in legal tech led her to realise that she was much better suited to more entrepreneurial and dynamic environments. She then realised that she did not actually want to become a lawyer. She is now killing it in the technology start up space.

In this honest conversation Crista shares with us:

-  Her long term ambition to study law

-  All the hard work she put into the seasonal clerkship process

-  What happened when she did not get a graduate offer

-  How her interest in legal tech lead her to a career in technology

-  Why she loves start ups

-  Her advice for others

Crista gets super honest and vulnerable about her clerkship experience and her perspective is an absolute breath of air.

I hope you enjoy listening to this honest conversation and it helps open your eyes to the limitless possibilities of where your legal career may take you.

Your host,

Rose :-)
