“All it takes is a little bit of hustle, and a whole lot of heart!”
-Melissa Rush, Host of the Hustle & Heart Podcast

Why Hustle & Heart? As long as I can remember, women have inspired me throughout my life. Whether it was my late, beloved Mom, my adventurous and brave Aunt, to some of my favorite neighbors, co-workers and friends I’ve had the pleasure of knowing…women have been my mentors, my inspiration.

I guess I have always lived my life with “a little bit of hustle and a whole lot of heart.”

I have worked hard to achieve the things I wanted in life… Good, Bad or even a little Wild. From being a scrappy little kid at sleep-away summer camp in the Berkshires, to taking my first Greyhound bus to New York City at age 18 to sneak into a club…

I took the risk. I made it happen. I remember fighting to get an internship at the now-defunct Boston Phoenix to getting into the graduate school of my dreams (Georgetown…Let’s go Hoyas!), to picking up my life and moving overseas to live and work Amsterdam, to getting married and raising two beautiful, spirited & gorgeous daughters. I have hustled and given it my all… heart and soul.

Now, it’s 2022. We have made it through over two years of the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic… essentially changing the way we live, work, breathe and navigate society and relationships. I have experienced the loss of both of my parents, the end of my marriage, and have had to pivot and be brave and strong for my daughters.

I turned to spirituality, meditation, yoga & surrounded myself with truly amazing, inspiring women to get me to my new phase of my life. I started a new & incredible career with a fantastic company, retooled & retrained & I am thriving! I could not have made it through these past few years without the LOVE, SUPPORT, and ENCOURAGEMENT of my incredible family & friends, both new & old… and I am forever grateful & blessed to have you all in my life. Together we are living life with “a little bit of hustle and a whole lot of heart.” Let’s do this! - Melissa ♥️🙏🏼

REWIND! GOING VIRAL - Valerie McSorley - The New (Virtual) Reality of Running a Business - The Hive

REWIND! GOING VIRAL - Valerie McSorley - The New (Virtual) Reality of Running a Business - The Hive

Welcome to 2021! To kick off the New Year...I wanted to REWIND to some of my favorite episodes of 2020! Please enjoy this incredible podcast with my dear friend Valerie McSorley. Everything that Val and I spoke about in this episode is still relevant, foreshadowed (scary but true) and happening 6 months later.
P.S.-->Today is January 6, 2021 and I am so incredibly thankful, grateful and blessed that my family and I have made it through the Covid-19 Pandemic. Our love and support goes out to all of those who suffered terrible personal losses and sicknesses this past year. So much has changed for each of us personally, professionally, financially and emotionally...we are still in the middle of it. We are still quarantining and social distancing, homeschooling and working remote...We are in this together. God Bless. xoxo

Ep. 10 - GOING VIRAL - Valerie McSorley - The New (Virtual) Reality of Running a Business - The Hive

New episode of "GOING VIRAL: Staying Sane, Healthy & Connected during the Coronavirus Outbreak of 2020" is here!
**Please Note: The opinions expressed in this podcast are my own and my guest's own. If you are experiencing a true medical emergency or Covid-19 symptoms, please call 911.**
-->I'm so excited to introduce my next guest, Valerie McSorley, Owner of The Hive, a brand new, unique event space located in Marshfield, MA and owner of Avant Garde Events in the Boston area for over 18 years. Valerie is an incredibly smart, passionate and talented entrepreneur and all around inspirational woman. Val is a real connector. She brings people together. Especially during this uncertain and difficult time, Val talks about keeping positive, connected and expressing our creativity.
Here are FIVE takeaways from Valerie:
    1) Get up, take a shower and get dressed every day! Spritz on your favorite perfume, put on your lipstick and style your hair. You will feel much better!
    2) It's all about the People in your life, not things. Take time to Pause, Reflect and Reinvest in your loved ones. Just appreciate this time with your family or whomever you are quarantining with, and see this as a gift. This won't last forever, so cherish it NOW.
3)Have Virtual Meetups every day! Do this through Zoom, Skype, FaceTime and Google Meet. It's free! (up to 30 minutes on Zoom).Virtual Happy Hours with your girlfriends! Virtual Family Dance Parties! Trivia Nights! Martini Mondays! Wine Wednesdays... Get creative and have fun!
4)STAY HOME! The more you exposure yourself and others, the worse the spread of the deadly coronavirus will be. We have to be vigilant and really stay away...more than just 6 feet away...stay home, order online. Wash your hands! Wear a Mask and Gloves if and when you do go out. Limit your exposure. Please be safe!
    5) Use this time to teach your children much needed LIFE SKILLS! While we are focusing on homeschool/academics, but really, our kids need to learn how to do their laundry, run the dishwasher, clean out their closets, wash the dishes, rake the lawn, clip the hedges, and clean out the litter box! It will change the family dynamic and take the pressure off of you. Make a CHORE CHART and have them really help out with the family chores and see this as an "opportunity," not a "punishment."
--> So take this opportunity to look for the silver lining in all of this TIME we have, and reconnect with our families in the "old school" and simple way.

Ep. 19 - Melanie Myers - Digital Marketing, Reinvention & Meditation during the Pandemic

Ep. 19 - Melanie Myers - Digital Marketing, Reinvention & Meditation during the Pandemic

I am thrilled to introduce my fabulous guest and beautiful friend, Melanie Myers of Myers Events & Marketing and Katamabay.com - on my crossover podcast "Hustle & Heart Podcast with Melissa Rush" and "GOING VIRAL: Staying Sane, Healthy & Connected during the Coronavirus Outbreak of 2020."

Melanie has been creating successful events for nonprofit and social clients for over a decade in the Greater Boston area. With many high profile clients in the sports & entertainment arena...she is the Go-To Gal for fundraising events! She is a truly dedicated member of her community and is always there to support a charity or meaningful cause, and lend a helping hand. Due to the challenging time for the live events industry, Melanie has shifted her attention to Katama Bay, a web design & digital marketing firm with business partner Chuck Meredith, near Boston, MA. They strive to add value to small and medium-sized businesses by increasing and maintaining their online presence through search-optimized design and targeted marketing, web design, brand awareness, organic and paid search, and social media management. During the pandemic, she advises all of her clients (such as restaurants and other services) to get COVID-19 safety certified (cleaning, screening forms, etc), reinvent themselves, consider new offerings and services (remote, Zoom, etc.), get organized, and update websites and photos of the business while they have this time.

Wellness, self-care and physical fitness (she's in great shape, people!) are her cornerstones to keeping sane, healthy and positive during this time in quarantine with her husband Billy (my not-so-secret crush!) and her 2 adorable kids. Melanie recently started meditating with the help of the Oprah & Deepak Chopra app...which has given her a newfound balance, sense of calm and focus. She highly recommends we take that quiet time for ourselves to slow down, appreciate our lives and connect our bodies and souls.

**Please Note: The opinions expressed in this podcast are my own and my guest's own. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please call 911 or consult your doctor.**

Ep. 17 - GOING VIRAL -Tricia Auld - Boston Comedian, Dating During Quarantine, Britney, and more

Ep. 17 - GOING VIRAL -Tricia Auld - Boston Comedian, Dating During Quarantine, Britney, and more

I am so happy to introduce my fabulous guest, Tricia Auld, local Boston comedian, on episode 11 of my podcast "GOING VIRAL: Staying Sane, Healthy & Connected during the Coronavirus Outbreak of 2020."

“Tricia Auld is a Boston-based comedian who’s performed in some of New England's region’s most charming/intimidating bars, theaters, and clubs. She’s a staple of Laugh Boston, Nick’s Comedy Stop and Giggles, among other venues. Tricia combines soul-baring anecdotes about living single, sexual misadventures, and her unconventional upbringing (as the middle child of 5 sisters) with an articulate irreverence that wouldn’t be out of place in a Chelsea Handler or Whitney Cummings special. She’s been producing a showcase every first Thursday at Club Cafe for the past few years.”

Tricia produced, wrote, and starred in her own comedy special “It’s My Wedding” at the legendary Nick’s Comedy Stop in Boston (see link below). She literally creates her faux wedding...iincluding Save the Dates, champagne toasts, white dress (or hot jumpsuit) and all her family and friends as guests. In it, she makes fun of the trials and tribulations of being a single woman in her 30’s as she navigates the online dating world, attends never-evending baby showers, gender reveals, and weddings, all while growing her comedy career. Tricia is smart, ambitious, funny, and dare I say, a real smoke show! She will be headlining some big theater shows in August - which hopefully won’t be postponed again… Stay Tuned!

**Please Note: The opinions expressed in this podcast are my own and my guest's own. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please call 911 or consult your doctor.**
