Ep. 148 - The Great Raid: Going Down to Cabana Town

Ep. 148 - The Great Raid: Going Down to Cabana Town

Last week we ended our show on a bleak note with hundreds of American prisoners of war at serious risk of being slaughtered by their Japanese guards. But we can't stand to see you so glum. You're just so pretty when you smile, you should do it more often! So, to help guide you back to a state of history bliss, we're going to devote this episode to telling you all about the spec ops raid designed to save these prisoners from annihilation. It is a great bit of World War II history that sometimes gets overshadowed by massive battles, but we think it deserves its time in the spotlight and we also think you're going to love it. So, why don't you grab a drink, settle in, and enjoy this episode of Hundred Proof History titled The Great Raid - Going Down to Cabana Town!

Ep. 147 - The Bataan Death March: Aptly Named

Ep. 147 - The Bataan Death March: Aptly Named

In 1942, the American forces in the Philippines were in a very bad way and were forced to surrender to the Japanese that had trapped them on a small peninsula on the island of Luzon. What followed was a brutal hellmarch, a suffocating train ride, and internment at a camp with conditions so bad that men wished for death. In this episode we're telling you the story of the surrender and the torture that followed, but this little slice of bleakness is only being served so that we can come back next week and tell you all about the daring spec-ops raid that was launched to save these men and bring them home. But for now, why don't you go ahead and grab a drink, settle in, and enjoy this episode of Hundred Proof History titled The Bataan Death March: Aptly Named!

Ep. 146 - Harold Shipman: Paging Dr. Death!

Every year on HPH we use Halloween as an opportunity to disguise ourselves as a True Crime podcast and tell you the terrible, awful, pointless tale of a serial killer. I bet you thought that we were skipping it this year just because it so happens to be Mid-November. Wrong! This year marks our 5th installment in our serial killer...series...and this time we're focusing on an English doctor who murdered upwards of 250 of his own patients and then got caught because he was a big, stupid boomer. We're going to have a lot of fun, despite the grim reality behind this week's episode, so why don't you go ahead and grab a drink, settle in, and enjoy this episode of Hundred Proof History titled Harold Shipman: Paging Dr. Death!

If you enjoyed this spooktacular episode, maybe consider supporting the show by joining the Patreon! For only $3 a month you'll get 39 classic episodes, almost 70 bonus episodes, and two day early access to new releases! It's a scary good deal!

Ep. 145 - The Bloody Baron Part II: Kinda Bad at Everything

Ep. 145 - The Bloody Baron Part II: Kinda Bad at Everything

In last week's episode we introduced you to Roman von Ungern-Sternberg, a wealthy weirdo Estonian who was obsessed with violence, establishing a monarchy, and murdering Jewish people. When we left you, he had joined up with the White Army to fight against the Soviets in the Russian Civil War. In this episode we're taking you through his fighting in Siberia, his "liberation" of Mongolia, his establishment of a Mongolian army, his invasion of Russia, and his eventual death. And if you think any of that went well, then you need to go ahead and grab a drink, settle in, and realize why this episode of Hundred Proof History is titled The Bloody Baron Part II: Kinda Bad at Everything!

Ep. 144 - The Bloody Baron: The D******d of Dauria

Ep. 144 - The Bloody Baron: The D******d of Dauria

At the beginning of the 20th Century, the country of Russia was in a state of absolute turmoil. The Tsar had been overthrown and the country was divided between the commie Soviet Red Army and the aristocratic White Army. In the middle of this was a little known history figure named Roman von Ungern Sternberg, who would not only fight the Bolsheviks but would then invade Mongolia and attempt to lead a Mongol force back into Russia to liberate it from the Soviets. Oh, and he was a total piece of shit that believed in ultraviolence, particularly towards the Jewish people. It's a wild story and in this episode of HPH we're taking you through his youth, early military career, and his establishment as a feudal tyrant in Siberia. So, why don't you just go ahead and grab a drink, settle in, and enjoy this episode of Hundred Proof History titled The Bloody Baron Part I: The Dickhead of Dauria!

Life without history learning & laughter is no life at all

Man I miss you guys (tear shed). Of course the intersection of my binging all of your episodes coming to an end around the same time as Greg’s human baby being born sure didn’t help. You guys had me laughing for months & I promise I learned new & good info too.

Amazing

Chris and Greg rescued my family and I from near certain death during an active volcano eruption. I am forever in debt.
