Equity Design Inc. trains teachers to use physical activity to enhance learning and positively impact the health of thousands of Bronx students.
Maurelhena always knew that she wanted to give back and work in the non-profit or social entrepreneurship sector, but first she gives us insight into her upbringing and what led her to today. She describes her parents’ strategic move to Manhattan’s Upper West Side as “window shopping from a young age”, where she had the “access” but not the funds. Maurelhena talks about how a child’s zip code dictates what resources are available to them. Gathering all this data and more, it put Maurelhena’s wheels in motion for seeking ways to make opportunities both accessible and affordable to children no matter where they live.
A career representing the United States in track and field happened along the way, too! 🏃🏾♀️ (Have to give Maurelhena a needed shout-out she doesn’t mention: She’s a World Masters Track and Field gold medalist and record holder.)
