Ep. 85: From Breaking the Handcuffs to Living On Her Own Terms: A Conversation with Sara Young Wang This Is My Truth

    • Self-Improvement

Sara is a career change coach for millennial professionals who are unhappy in their jobs or careers. Most of her clients are in jobs they worked hard for and thought would make them happy, but they're finding themselves exhausted and increasingly miserable.

They know they need to do something to change their situation and know this line of work isn’t for them, but don't know what to do about it. There’s a lot of confusion and 'I don’t knows'. They’re wondering how to get from where they're at now to a life they enjoy. All they know is their job may look great on paper, but feels terrible to them.

Sara helps them gain the clarity they’re searching for on what they want to do to change their current work to a career that brings them greater fulfillment and happiness and get the confidence to take action and go after it!

In today's discussion, we cover:

Self-worth is independent of your titles and accomplishments, it just is
Fear (of judgment, failure, etc.) is often a motivating factor for what we are doing in life, but we need to step back from that fear and find what our authentic self is and live for that
The work of acceptance comes from within, and we can use that to choose which spaces we navigate towards and those we shy away from
You do not have to justify your existence with a title

Sara states: "I'm only able to be able to help others with this because it's a path I had to walk for myself. I was right there too, feeling conflicted, frustrated, disappointed asking, 'Is this all there is? I worked so hard to get here, but it’s not what I thought it would be.' Prior to being a coach, I ran a social impact startup, worked for a global top management consultancy, worked for the United Nations in Europe and pushed my way through a Masters degree at the London School of Economics. And only after hitting a wall of unhappiness and stress-induced illness was I willing to take a look at what was really going on inside me. All of this was really done from a place of needing to be "successful" to prove myself and feel "good enough." My choices really had very little to do with who I am, what felt good to me and what I genuinely wanted. And I had to learn how to navigate the world in a new way, honoring those things...starting with uncovering what they even are!"
