Promise Box Passages #8- Mar 19, 2023 - W. Shannon Potter
Only two more Sundays remaining in our sermon series entitled ‘Promise Box Passages’ as we explore some of the most common scriptures that are taken out of context. This week we will consider Matthew 24:40-42, “Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” Many of us who grew up going to church experienced the constant fear and anxiety associated with Jesus' return and the possibility of being left behind. This Sunday we will be asking if this verse is a support for 'Rapture Theology' and if 'Rapture Theology' is even supported by scripture at all.

Promise Box Passages #7 - Mar 5, 2023 - W. Shannon Potter
This Sunday we are continuing our sermon series entitled ‘Promise Box Passages’ as we explore some of the most common scriptures that are taken out of context. This week we will consider 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” Many use this verse to support the belief that God will never give you more than you can handle, but as we take a closer look, we will see that it is about God helping us in times of temptation.

Promise Box Passages #6 - Feb 26, 2023 - W. Shannon Potter
This coming Sunday we are returning to our winter sermon series entitled ‘Promise Box Passages’ as we explore some of the most common scriptures that are taken out of context. This week we will consider Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Many associate this verse as a pattern or formula that one can follow in order to receive their desired answer to prayer, but as we take a closer look, we will see that it is a call for our relationships with others to be rooted in generous grace instead of judgement.

Family Ties - Feb 19, 2023 - Scott Moore
We’ll be taking a break from our series to look at Moses’s message to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 6, and learning how God can use family to tell His story.

Promise Box Passages #5 - Feb 12, 2023 - W. Shannon Potter
It is February and love is in the air! This coming Sunday will be week 5 of our winter sermon series entitled ‘Promise Box Passages’ as we explore some of the most common scriptures that are taken out of context. This week we will take a look at Ephesians 5:22-23 - “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.” Many associate this verse with the hierarchy of leadership within families but perhaps it means something completely different.
